Do you like articulating seat pans?

Larry mentioned articulating seat pans very briefly at the Do III, but I can't remember the context. Do you?

Here's one BIG vote in favor of articulating seat pans. I found them MUCH more comfortable than traditional fixed seat bottoms. Have you flown with them? Do you like them??

On a recent trip, I had to fly some non-Sky Team carriers within Asia, in coach class. (Bummer to lose the miles and EQM.) But one carrier flew an Airbus (:td: cough.. cough..) widebody, where the seat bottoms (pans) slid forward when you reclined your seat. This is a REAL improvement in passenger comfort!!

Please, please, CO make all your future seat purchases with articulating seat pans!

The 753 seems to feature this both in Y and in F.

They say all the new seats on the 752 (and I assume the 739ERs too) will have non-articulating seats. I guess the tests on some 752s and 753s aren't that positive.

I've had them on AF's 773ERs. And I like them a lot.

I believe CO Insider mentioned a few weeks back that CO would not be using the "articulating pan" seats going forward as they were causing too many maintenance issues.

most of my flight on the 753, all in F i believe, have had the artic. seats and they seemed to be working improperly. in terms of maintanence, the less moving parts the better.

IIRC, I didn't like the articulating seats for 2 reasons. I felt that the lumbar support was worse. And I also felt that I lost a little leg room (maybe just in my head) Being 6'3", even a subjective loss of leg room is devastating ;)

I was on one of the 753s in F that the articulating seat pans. They seemed ok, but IIRC I would have been more comfortable without it.

I am 6'3"er as well, as although I value my knee room like gold, I do like the seat pans on the 753. However, does anyone know how much kneeroom is lost? I've really only got on 'em IAH-LAS, and usually celebrating. :)

In my one experience with those seats on AF's 773, I didn't have problem with knee room. I felt like I could slide down enough that my knee will not bump into the seat in front, and my legs/feet could go further forward underneath the seat in front.

But I didn't do any measurements. Just an impression.

My only experience is in CO's 753 in the first class cabin, and I liked them. ^

Ain't that some fancy wordin' fer a slidey-seat...

I know I'm in a very, very small minority but I think the 753 Y seats may be the most uncomfortable airline seat I've ever sat it, well at least for a transcon. Killed my back, bottom feel asleep and cut the circulations off in my legs. Now I don't remember this being a problem on a shorter MCO-EWR flight.

I've never really noticed any reduction in knee room on the 753s. But then, I've only flown the 753 in coach twice, and both of those times I was in an exit row. But I really don't see how the seat pan sliding forward a little would really reduce the knee room. I'd think that the seat in front reclining would be more of an issue.

My only complaint about the 753 seats is that a lot of them need some lubrication on the seat pans. The ones in F are especially bad about this, making a rather unpleasant noise when the seat bottom slides.

I haven't flown one yet but I like this idea the way CX implemented it. On the way I saw it, a reclining seat in front of you does not affect your space. It had more of a permanent wall and your seat bottom moves forward rather than pushing your seatback into someones laptop screen behind you.

I'd love to see this in more coach sections around the industry.

I'm 6 ft. 2 in., 200 lbs. I didn't find it reduced kneeroom, just provided more support under my long thighs when I stretched out. Much more comfortable.
