Using OP Miles to Upgrade on KLM
 

Tried the search, but couldn't find anything relevant so would appreciate the help:

Can a person use OP miles to upgrade a coach ticket to WBC on KLM?

If so, does a person have to purchase specific fare classes on KLM?

If an upgrade cannot be confirmed, is there a waitlist or does one have to call all the time to check availaibility?

1. Yes.
2. Only the two highest KL fare classes may be upgraded - Y and S.
3. OnePass members cannot waitlist for mileage upgrades on KL.

Actually the 2 highest KLM economy fare classes are S and B (eg Y = S).

You need to have "D" inventory available for the upgrade. This is much more limited than the upgrade buckets for KL/NW miles. It seems that "D" gets released only a few days before the flight (or maybe as much as a week beforehand :p!). I found that the easiest way to check for D availability was to use:
www.flyaow.com/classamex.htm
(If D is not available, it won't show up at all).
