CO Flight 01??
 

1) If I take flight 01 IAH - GUM leaving IAH on 12/31, but arriving GUM 1/01 are the miles posted on the 2007 or 2008 ledger?
2) If I do this round trip and (try to) upgrade using miles, does CO count this as two legs, or four since it stops in HNL? Will I be charged 50,000 miles, or 100,000?

1) The miles will post in your 2007 travel year.

2) If you're only transitting in HNL, CO will bill you the North America - Asia Pacific travel reward rates. I can't answer as to what they'll debit you if you stop-over in HNL.

They will charge 50,000 miles since the stop in HNL is to refuel the plane.

This can be a difficult upgrade to get even with a high fare bucket so keep your fingers crossed.

My experience is that even if you stop over in HNL for a few days on the routing, they will take 50,000 for the mileage upgrade from IAH to GUM (or vv). I will agree that this is a very difficult mileage upgrade.

Take the Island Hopper! One of the most unusual flights you can take. You will not be disappointed!

It does, however, take about 14 hours to get from HNL to GUM (or something like that, I don't remember exaclty.)

But if you have the time, do it. This flight is AMAZING.

CO 001 on IAH-HNL is the standard 764 with 35 BF seats. There's usually a change of plane and CO 001 HNL-GUM is on the Hawaii configured 764 with only 20 BF seats. It's usually hard to upgrade on the direct IAH-GUM because the IAH-HNL portion is usually full in BF and plenty of space on the HNL-GUM sector, and the flight is sold under 1 flight number as opposed to 2separate flights. I've done IAH-HNL-GUM-MNL and back several times and the only time I've gotten a successful upgrade was when the flights were on a DC-10.

Have you been able to see a mini island hopper in a schedule? I'm not sure when it flies, but you can get an upgrade for status because it's not a BF seat. It stops in Majuro or Kwajelein. I'm not sure which one now. It's been changing. Be sure to book it online. If you have to call it in, you may get a fare that only gives 50% EQM. Then again, this is only from HNL to GUM.

I had this happen to me and you will get the 2007 credit. It's only two legs.

You do have the option of the island hopper and upgrades are usually easy on that one but it is a smaller plane and the service is not as good as the upgrade for the CO 1. And yes CO is playing with some other flights that go GUM to HNL through Kwaj. And the flights were cheap in price just to fill up the space.

I've read the several answers here and agree with most.

Definately, the island hopper is a ton of fun. Be aware that only authorized persons are allowed to deplane at KWJ. The island is a military and satellite tracking base.

I have found, as a platibum, that it is reasonably easy to upgrade a Y fare (using miles, of course) from LAX to HNL to GUM and return. I fly to LAX on a lower fare and hope for upgrades.

I think the equipment varies on this route... I am flying in a few days, and the seat map is showing the 20-seat business cabin on the IAH-HNL segment of CO 1. Looking at some maps in the future, it seems that the equipment varies by day of the week. Something to keep in mind if you are looking for an upgrade on the route.
