is it possible to be booked on the same flight twice??

i am currently booked on a refundable R fare msy-bos-msy. i may have to change it to phx-bos-phx.

i was going to go ahead and buy the refundable fare for phx-bos-phx, as the price is good right now, then by week's end, id know 100% where id be and cancel one of them.

problem is that both outbounds connect in iah and id be booked twice on the same flight, taking up to seats up front. one will definetely get cancelled and refunded but i dont want to cause any problems.

anyone have any experience on this?
