Quick OnePass question...
 

Wife and daugther want to go to London this summer.

I have the 75k in miles to get them one ticket [25k outbound and 50k home].

Wife has 25k in her account now, and we should have her 50k Amex promotion miles to transfer over within the next 30 days to cover the the rest.

Question is, can we book this now even though she has a deficit in miles?

For the 150k in miles we save ~$2500 in cash, not a terrible trade off...

Miles are deducted at the time of booking.

OnePass awards are booked each way. So you could have four accounts with 25k in them and book 2 r/t. However, you still pay the taxes which on many coach fairs is more than the fair. Best bet is to save them for something else.

If you have 75k in OnePass and your wife has 25k you can book two coach saver tickets now.

Are you serious about that? Onepass awards can only be claimed as roundtrip. I don't know how you can use miles from two account to book one r/t.

If one can, then many people with just 12,500 miles in their account can claim tickets.

If that's really true, please substantiate.

I could be wrong, there are a lot of people here that know a lot more than I do. I just seem to remember a friend doing something like this. I think one of them was a Plat so maybe it was a one time thing. I stand corrected.

$2500 savings for 150k miles.... Sure, maybe not a "terrible" tradeoff, but I'd go at least as far as "bad tradeoff." You're getting less than 1.7 cents per mile, even if you completely discount the ~8000 miles (each!) given up by flying non-rev.

If it's what you'd like to do, it's perfectly reasonable. Just keep in mind it's possible to redeem miles for a LOT more value (even on coach tickets).
