Difference between R and A, C, D, J, Z?

Did a search but I'm not very good at that so someone point me to a thread if it exists.

I purchased one of the BF sale to Europe tickets last month and it booked in R class.. I thought that was Reward travel? A lot of the agents thought I was traveling on that for some reason ("well did you PAY for the ticket?" "Well yes I did!".

Anyhow can someone clarify this rate class for me?

Thanks and sorry for the stupid question in advance.

R used to be reward, no more; it changed recently. The news hasn't yet filtered through the Continental community. R is now a revenue fare bucket.
