low fare guarantee
what sort if any low fare guarantee does CO have? I booked a ticket last week and the ticket price dropped. On NW i know they refund the difference and issue a $50 voucher.
|
NW gives you the difference + $50 just because the price dropped???
Continental has some guarantees that the price on their website right now is the lowest available right now from anywhere (i.e. you won't find a lower price on Expedia or Travelocity). But I can't imagine any airline paying you back just because prices change over time (perhaps down). But if you can confirm this about NW, I'm very interested to hear! |
I was curious, so I checked on this...
From http://www.nwa.com/features/bestfare2.html "When it comes to finding the best Northwest Airlines' fare online, you can count on nwa.com. If you find a lower fare online for the same flight, itinerary and cabin that's at least $5.00 lower on the same day after you purchase your nwa.com ticket, file a claim and we'll refund the difference and give you an Electronic Credit Voucher (ECV) for future travel in the amount of $50.00 USD for each eligible ticket." So, just like CO, this is a guarantee that their website is the cheapest place to buy a ticket. It is NOT a guarantee that you are protected against future price drops. |
My mistake, must of misunderstood the while your on hold advertisements. Regardless, is there any future price drop guarantee? Will they refund the difference?
|
I very strongly doubt it, but maybe someone else here can confirm.
I'd be thrilled to find out I'm wrong! |
Technically, the language pasted would be applicable if you bought your ticket and NWA lowered the price more than $5 on the same day. Otherwise, it would not count. Basically, they put these guarantees in to get people back to their site. When fares first came online there were situations where you'd find diff fares at diff sites. They want to you find at least as good a price on CO/NWA/whatever airline.com as they already pay for the site and don't have to pay anyone a booking fee.

The CO LFG (Low Fare Guarantee) applies only if you find the exact same itinerary (flight numbers, day) from another pricing source on the same day that is priced $10 or less. CO will match the price and give you a $100 voucher. CO must be able to find the fare pricing on Expedia, Orbitz, or whatever site is pricing the fare cheaper.
Must be booked in the same fare class. (You can't specify fare class when selecting your CO flights.) Your CO ticket/itinerary must be booked/purchased. |
The Continental low fare guarantee is just B.S. It basically guarantees that the lowest fare you can find on continental.com is the lowest fare on you can find on continental.com.
There ain't nothin' that says that they can't offer lower fares on the same flights on the other reservation systems, but just using a different fare code. Continental.com's inventory isn't the same as the other booking engines, often I can find more flight availability on the other systems. It's useful to know that if you can find flights on the other systems, but not on co.com, you can call tech support, and they'll tell you that they have different inventory, but they can book you on the flights that are available on the other systems, and you still get the 100% EQM. |
