Thanks,

How can anyone answer this without knowing
1) Where you're going
2) What flight
3) What fare class you're on
4) What your elite status is
5) etc, etc, etc.

Not only extra miles but elite miles. To china and back from IAH is close to an extra 10k. That is a lot of elite miles and worth purchasing an H fare.

You don't earn any extra OnePass miles for flying an H fare. Only paid business class fares (excl. R starting Jan) earn bonus miles. H fares do, of course, earn 1.5 elite-qualifying miles per mile flown. I presume the OP was not referring to extra OnePass miles.

I've been waitlisted for a month on LGW-IAH Friday 12/1. It just cleared yesterday 11/28. So do not give up hope.

Thanks again for all your help and advice. :)

I don't mean to beat on a dead horse, but thezipper has made me wonder...Does CO see flight 88 as one flight or two when it come to upgrading? If the EWR-IAH leg is sold out up front and F space is available on the PEK-EWR leg, will you get upgraded on the PEK-EWR leg, or not?

Thanks,
Scott

A direct flight is viewed as "one" flight -- and a completely separate flight from its individual segments -- for inventory purposes. Thus, it's entirely possible for PEK-EWR and EWR-IAH to both have upgrade seats available, and yet not be upgraded if no upgrade inventory has been allocated for PEK-IAH.

To continue the resurrection: basically it's a BAD idea to take a "direct" flight unless there is no change of aircraft. You get screwed over on miles, segments (I think), and upgrade chances. Even if there is no change of aircraft planned, a delay on the first part of the flight might make the airline change plans and use a different aircraft for the second leg, eliminating the seemingly guaranteed connection.

Direct = BAD, worse than connecting flights
Non-stop = GOOD
