Will CO/UA MERGE?
 
The hostile takeover bid of DL by US opens the door to other takeovers and mergers..this brings up the CO/UA Merger speculation that has been around for awhile. :-:

CO stock is up 10% this morning. Someone thinks CO is a takeover candidate and the stock up reflects that.

It does? It could just reflect the opinion that there will be less competition and more profits....

It's both. CO/UA up ~10%, while AA up around 4%, given the first two are more likely to merge with someone, and get a disproportionate share of those benefits.

at this point i'm sure anything could happen, but NW still has a bit of a say in what CO does.

If USair wanted to make wacky offers, they should have gone after UA for better representation across the Pacific.

In any event, if US and DL did get together despite all of the protests from DL, I think you'd see CO and UA seriously talk to each other about partnering.
