Sequence Number
 

Maybe this is more suited for the KVS thread but searching both threads I had no luck finding the easy answer to my question . Take it easy on me I am a newbie in this area. :)

Question: I hear some of the posts in the CO forum mention my sequence number is XX if I did or did not do OLCI.

1. Is this sequnce number for EUA? i.e 1 is most likely to EUA, 10 is not likely. If not for EUA then what is it for?
2. Where can I find this number before actually finishing OLCI?
3. Is this number viewable online or on my BP after OLCI?
4. If the sequnce number has nothing to do with EUAs, then is there a way to view where I am on the upgrade list (minus asking the GA), I doubt that this is possible?

Any input PM or in the forum is appreciated.

2. You have to check in first.
3. Viewable on your online boarding pass.
4. Used in the standby upgrade list - when elite status and fare code are equal.

it is the order in which you checked in and is on the right side of your BP. i do not even think it says "sequence number." its just a number all by itself.

At the top of the OLCI printout it does say "Seq: XX", between "Flt:" and "Seat"

Thanks everyone, I am understanding it much more now.

I do not print out OLCI BPs, I have never understood that concept. Why should I save CO money by wasting my printers ink (I always chuckle at people printing BPs on their home printers in full color on the fanciest paper they have, not on my dime I say)...I OLCI but then print my BPs at the gate (COs dime).

Today I noticed a "6" character by itself on my CO BP and asked in the PC about my line for FC upgrade...I was told that I was 4th in line (4th behind a gold no doubt!). I did assume the 6 referred to the sequence number and hence my questions tonight.

CO's dime, but your time. And I assume you're printing them out at the check-in area, not sure how you get to the gate without a boarding pass.

As alluded to, sequence number (aka check-in order) does not come into play except as a tie-breaker between two equal-status elites on the same fare class. It's likely that the other 3 plats in front of you were on higher fare classes.

Ok, I'm sequence number 1 on a fairly full 738, SFO to EWR this morning. I checked in about 20 minutes after it was possible to do so. (Upgrades are so unlikely on this route that I don't sit by my computer waiting for the bell on OLCI.)

I find it a bit odd that no one on this fairly full plane checked in ahead of me, in this 20 minute window. Is it possible that we don't quite understand this sequence number?

Perhaps some people have more important things to do than wait till 24 hours prior fight to check in.

Also remember that SEQ comes after two other factors for determining upgrades, so if you are on a flight that never has upgrades (ie Transcon) and you are not a Platinum on a Y/H fare, why bother rushing to check in at 24 hours. It really isn't going to change anything for you except to possibly let you book one of the blocked seats or the exit row, if the Platinums don't have all of them already.

i try to check in as early as possible every time. i dont go setting my alarm to it or anything, but it can have its advantages. usually not, but why not just check in and get at the top the list of others who are equal to you.

check in time must have had to come in to play on my last iah-pty flight. sold out in F for weeks. after the PC agent reinforced what i have already known for weeks, I presumed to get super drunk in the PC so i could pass on in 5F for the four hour flight.

turns out i got the "beep, beep, beep" as i boarded the plane. as it tuns out i was a little too drunk upon arrival n PTY.

the thing is, you never really know for sure, where you were on the list, who was originally on the flight and who may left the flight for an earlier but are still on the list. and of all those, what fares they were on.

do as much as you can to imporve your chances and every now and then it will work for you. most of the time though, it doesnt really matter.

I just checked in for a flight tomorrow EWR to SFO, in the first minute, and I'm sequence number 28. My previous flight SFO to EWR, I waited 20 minutes and was sequence number 1.

Strange but possible. Either half the flight originates elsewhere in the east and already checked in, or the meaning of the sequence number has changed.

You're correct that others have checked in because of connecting flights.

When I flew HKG-EWR-IAH, I was easily Seq 1 for the EWR-IAH leg as I got to check-in to that flight 18 hours before those who just fly EWR-IAH could.

On the other hand, SFO is not a CO hub, so no one connects to your SFO-EWR flight.
