16DEF question on 752
I am thinking of changing to 16D on the 752 at the 24 hour mark. Has anyone ever swicthed to that usually held back seat and then been bumped for a handicapped person? What would really suck, considering I would be giving up 15C.

Thanks Scott, thats what I thought too but the CSA insisted it was for a handicapped passenger. I told her that seemed contradictory, but no harm no foul. I assume its for pilot rest on international flights? If so, I guess that I shouldnt have any fears of getting kicked out if its a domestic flight?

Whenever seats are held back for crew rest they are completely off the map. 16DEF is a good example with the 752 and the first two rows of DEF on the 777 are another (use to be the last four seats in the last of BF on the 777 were also completely off the map). Handicapped seats on the other hand are just grayed out. Pull up any 738/739 flight and I'll be you dollars to doughnuts that 2B's "occupied". Coincidently, I'm a big fan of 2A on the 738/739 - but when it's not available I sneak into 2B around the 24 hour mark. It's a cool tactic if you want the A/B bulkheads on that equipment. |

This Sucks
I just called CO and was told that 16DEF are now taken. I asked how that was possible considering that the seats were not supposed to be released until the 24 hour mark (i called 3 mins early). She said that they should have released the seat to me when I called this morning. I told her thats not what the CSA said when I called about 5 hours ago. Very frustrating.

When 16 D E F are blocked I keep checking back weekly until the the 72 hour window and then daily after that.
I have found that if they are released you have to be ready to snap them up. |
UPDATE: A wonderful and patient CSA was able to get me into 7C. All's well that ends well...

My most recent variance was provisional Platinum status the day after my qualifying flight. CO.com is explicit that I was entitled to plat status, but I knew the miles would not have posted yet. It didn't really help, as I upgraded for the next flight as Gold before the status took effect, but my colleague listed automatically as my Gold Companion despite my provisional Plat status in my OnePass record. He just missed the upgrade; I got this too fixed at the airport, but not before the last seat was assigned to a natural Gold. [Next time, also have the provisional status entered into the flight record.] This is a game one plays the best one can, not an entitlement. I lost the above game at the buzzer; I was playing harder for a friend who has never sat in front, than I play for myself. This forum is invaluable for learning about the game, even as it also provdes write-only memory for whines. |
