Do Sr. Politicians/Diplomats Routinely Use CO/PClub
Currently in the DEN PClub and overheard an interesting conversation. Apparently Karl Rove swung through here last Saturday creating a small commotion. Secret service came into the Club, swept it and than the architect himself came in and went straight to a conference room with his SS entourage (perhaps they thought bonehead was in the area ;)).
Anyway, I was a bit surprised when I heard this as I'd assume someone at that level would simply use private transport - especially if Secret Service escorts accompany them. As such, I'm curious if anyone else has seen/heard of Sr. Politicians, SCOTUS Justices, Top Diplomats, etc. using CO's facilities - and if so – what is done differently to accommodate them, if anything? |
I know a former Cabinet member who routinely visited RCCs. He flew UA quite a bit as private transport was not always available. Now that he is no longer a publice employee I've taken him in to PCs as a guest a number of times when we travel together.

Henry Kissinger was famous for his outspoken love of the Concorde... it wasn't unusual to find him in the Concorde facilities at JFK.
|
I heard that the late Supreme Court Chief Justice William Renquist would frequent the PC at WAS with 2 aides/bodyguards. A friend of mine saw him in there a lot, and said he was usually just sitting in the corner.
|
I have flown home with DCA with most of our congressional delegation, all of which I saw in the PC prior to departure (including a former presidental candidate).
|
Public transportation is generally far cheaper for taxpayers than private, so it's good to see our politicians and the like flying commercial, and having to schlepp through the airport terminal like the rest of us - even with an entourage.

George Bush uses IAH PC's
I've seen the former President George Bush in the PC's at the airport named after him.

As far as security, there was one assistant, a private guard, and one NYC cop. Long way down from the Concorde... |
I've seen a couple of SCOTUS Justices on Delta Shuttle flights, as well as Hillary and Chelsea Clinton (actually sat next to her), Chuck Schumer, John Corzine, etc.
|
I've seen Whitehouse "advance" teams on UA flights to the UK. A couple in F and the rest in C. I know because one of the people in F had a tag on their bag stating the "advance" team business.
|
I have seen Sen. Joe Biden in the Club Acela Lounge in DC as well as former CA Governor Gray Davis at the LAX PClub.

Karl Rove in the PC? Kinda reminds me of "Snakes on a Plane"
|
Mayor Giuliani used to prefer flying TWA and I sat in the FC cabin with him and his then-companion Judith Nathan (this is when Giuliani was still married to Donna Hannover) from MSY to JFK. I do not recall any obvious special security.
