The non-elite transcon

Board an EWR-SJC yesterday afternoon. FC/Elite are called..and no one tries to board. Turns out there were only 2 elites on this whole flight, which had a full coach cabin! FC ended up going out with 10/12...most paid or reward (like myself). Rare sight on a transcon...although had something similar during the holidays.

And, here's the kicker...

managed to snag a standard level FC on SFO-EWR in a BF 757 for the return. Thank you for taking time off business travelers!

Reminds me of the days 3, 4 years ago when the transcons were the among the easiest UGs in the system.

I think this is just a saturday thing. Im taking the EWR-SJC flight on Thursday, another day that's usually good for UG's, and there's only 2 F seats avail right now (and none in R)

You did luck out. I seldom see empty seats up front any more!

You did get lucky! But on Saturdays I think it's a lot easier. I flew EWR-PDX on a Saturday evening flight last October and only about ten people boarded during the first class and elite boarding calls. The flight was operating with a domestic 757-200, with 24 first class seats. About half the first class seats went out empty, but coach was probably 95% full. It was a great flight, since F was so empty. I had two seats to myself, and nobody behind me, so no worries about fully reclining the seat after dinner.
