ewr PC donuts
it had been ages since i took a morning flight from ewr until recently. i wasn't aware of the sugar bomb donuts available at the PC. two of those things before boarding and i slept like a log the whole flight.

At IAH, I can understand lousy food in the PC, because except for barbeque, they don't know what good food is in Texas. But at EWR which is in the New York area (even if it's technically New Joisey) and home of the bagel and Enteman's, there's no excuse for the pathetic bagels and lard filled round thing that looks something like a donut.
All you guys from out of town complain about the attitude of EWR gate personnel, but I bet you can't wait to get to New York to go out to a great restaurant, even if it costs a bundle. |

Regardless of what you think of "arrogance," New York City is undoubtedly one of the great food cities of the world. It's one of the reasons I'd have so much trouble moving to most parts of the country. That said, I've had great meals in other cities, but the sheer variety of cuisine here is unsurpassed in most other parts of the country.
I don't understand why the clubs have to have such mediocre food in general. I was pleasantly surprised by a decent but not great cookie at the MSP WC last weekend, but it could've been better still. At least most PCs have ample granola bar stocks if you want something a little healthier (and they are good for taking along on the plane). |

those donuts with the little crumbs on them are awesome with coffee or a screw driver for that matter. I love them. i dont mess with the nasty bagels.

Remember the days, about five years ago, when the airlines could afford to keep lounges with nice spreads of food. At the old WClub at HKG they had an excellent chicken satay, even post-911. When the domestic RCC opened at SFO around 1999 they had a fifteen foot long buffet with all sorts of yummy goodies. (I'd gladly pay $5 for those excellent asiago spinich croissants at the airport today) My dad still talks, with a tear in his eye, about the best frozen yogurt he ever had at the SEA WClub in the mid-1990s. I remember visiting the SYD Ansett Golden Wing lounge back around 1995 with food I still dream about. Unfortunately, like icarus Ansett has fallen. {:-(
These days though, I'm pretty happy with toasted bagels and bananas at the PClub. At least we still have free drinks, unlike at many other domestic airline clubs. (Although I remain surprised they do not serve Shiner in Houston.) What was the best epicurean experience you have had at an airline club? |
It is my understanding that companies like Westfield--the company that leases the stores in terminal C at EWR--would object if CO gave away quality food in the PC. The stores in areas like terminal C are highly profitable--Westfield gets a cut on the revenues that each store generates--they wouldn't want any competition.

Food was not as plentiful as Emirates but you cant beat the ambiance of the Concorde lounge. Oh and the Champagne was quite nice too. |

It's amazing us IAH'ers survive without the divine guidance of our superiors in NYC. But please, by all means let me reaffirm your observation - we don't know what is good in Texas along any front. So happy eating as you enjoy friendly service at your reasonably priced dinner in NYC - and stay out of Texas.

As for the PC's, I wish the fresh fruit offerings at HNL were available system wide. Those SaraLee products are lacking and fresh fruit would make an nice healthy refreshment throughout the day. |

To keep this kinda on topic...the bagels in the EWR PC's are better than the ones United has in their EWR RCC. IMHO. ;) |
I remember not too long ago when the PClub at EWR had fresh rolls and bagels from some local outfit.
That ended just after 9/11 and I always suggest that CO dump Sara Lee and go back to the fresh products without so many chemicals but, I guess until things change(and then maybe even not)I will have to make do with Sara Lee. Dan |

One is flying the Concorde and the other was flying a 777 in and out of 8L in HNL in the IAH FLight SIM at the DO. I'm still tring to decide which was more exciting. |
