flight to Beijing
What is the exact flight time from Newark to Beijing? CO lists it as 13 hours and 45 min. I will be flying in the cargo section, so every minute counts...
|
I did it before Christmas and it was around 13 hours 10 min. There's no "exact" time though - it will vary significantly each day depending on the route taken and the winds.
|
The proposed flight time for today's flight is 13:01.
This flight always use one of the Polar routes, which don't have much headwind or tailwind. Based on the experience of EWR-HKG, which uses the same route, it should be very consistent. Perhaps between 13:00 and 13:15. |
The cargo hold can be rather cold. Make sure you seal some blankets into your box. Whatever you do, fill out the customs declaration properly. This guy was only on a domestic flight and look what happened to him!

Get your Doc to prescribe Ambien, and 7-9 hours of the trip disappears, even in Y. Plus you arrive refreshed. BJS was a great trip!

How can anybody give an "exact" time? I mean, what an odd question. I dont think that CO saying 13:45 is them attempting to be deceptive?? it's an average gate - gate time. Not trying to be rude, but that question has no accurate answer. |
Actual outbound on 12/22 was 12:50, inbound on Christmas Eve just a little longer. Scored the op-up outbound and had a great time, coach wasn't bad coming back as it was not even half full.

I have done EWR-PEK twice, going West once and East once. As a passenger, you will generally not know until you watch the airshow after departure. If heading toward Hudson Bay, its the West routing. If heading toward Boston/Greenland, it will be the East routing. |
at the risk of being insensitive - it is approximately 13.5 hours, give or take 15-20 minutes on either side.
Good Luck. Move on already. |
I've tracked CO 89/99 often, and they almost always fly NNE towards Baffin Island in N. Canada, and then join one of the Polar Routes. CO99 to HKG doens't have the option (not enough range) of going west through Hudson Bay and northern Alaska, but perhaps CO89 to PEK does.
But for the vast majority of flights, they will go NNE out of EWR. I believe that's to catch some of the tailwind for the early portion between EWR and the North Pole, rather than going straight north. CX's JFK-HKG, CA's JFK-PEK and AC's YYZ-HKG & YYZ-PEK all fly the same route. One can check the initial paths on flightaware.com each day. |
