Flight change or standby to get the EU

I am flying EWR-FLL 2/12 7:40 AM FLL-EWR 2/13 3:15 PM

Right now it's not looking good for the upgrade.. My question is if I can change my flight at the 72 hr mark and automaticaly get upgraded. Also on the day of travel if I were to fly standby and get on the flight (assuming it was available) would I get upgraded?

If you change, you'd be eligible based on the rules for EUA. If you see "R" seats, then go for it. If you standby, you'd only get the UP if there is still a seat when they confirm the seat & after other Plats, plat companions and maybe some golds go ahead of you. Depending on when they clear the standby list, Silver's might get the UP first as well. Changing at the 72 hour mark is a better bet, but no guarantee. IMHO, it's not that long a flight and not worth messing with. You'll change, sit in "Y" and find out later that a bunch of people mis-connected from your original flight.
