Has this place changed?

Is it me, or this board wayyyy more hostile since the whole Mastercard debacle? Maybe it has always been this way and I just didn't notice it, but it seems like the vitriol has been out in force since that all went down. It was like a pseudo turning point. Thoughts?

vincom Feb 6, 2006 2:49 pm

I dont think so, Continental cleared that issue up - it was a stupid mistake they did not even know about.

Perhaps there is just some more than usual tension since the DO for whatever reason, but regardless we're all one happy family arent we?

Read the thread Unnecessary Upgrade BS. I did not think this site was going down hill until I read that thread.

bocastephen Feb 6, 2006 2:58 pm

I am getting a deja vu feeling...it's like being at the Delta forum.

I noticed the change...but very recent, within the past few days, and usually by newbies. I would like to see it stop. The CO board has always been a fairly friendly place. If I want hostility, I have a home at the Travel Safety/Security forum :)

I am a relative newbie and even I have seen the spirit of many posts go down the toilet in the past two months. I think posters need to remember that what you type is being read by real people here! We, after all, are not merely screen names! :p It would be wise for all (newbies and oldies haha!) alike to just remember to have a modicum of decorum when posting & replying. :)

"Why don't you use the search function to find an answer?"

This seems to be a favorite reply to ANY post and I think that causes some of the friction. ;)

Does that mean being panty-waisted, polite and politically correct, instead of going for the throat? :)

I hope I never have to choose between a sword and dueling pistol when I post...

Wow this thread even seems friendly :)

Just behave and do exactly what the Plats tell you to do and you'll be fine.
P.S. Inside of 6 feet, take the sword.

I enjoy being the antithesis of panty-waisted, polite and politically correct. And I think you already know the answer to this rhetorical question. That said, however; I see no need to resort to personal attacks while defending my point of view. There is a major difference in the amount of credibility you receive, no matter what your point of view, between calling someone an *sshole rather than outlining your point of view in a clear, well thought out manner.   LOL!

umguy Feb 6, 2006 6:16 pm

Oh boy and we are going downhill. No personal attack.

I'm not looking for board cred. here, as I'm just a lowly, scum Silver with no hope of ever being a Gold or Plat-ulence

randidliyo Feb 6, 2006 6:39 pm

so....in 25 words or less, what was the MasterCard debacle?

Xyzzy Feb 6, 2006 6:39 pm

Those of you who think it's unfriendly now should have been here ~3 years ago.

otralot Feb 6, 2006 7:01 pm

It's not permanent. People are just waking up from the CO management induced euphoria from the big DO only to realize that nothing has changed and now they are a bit hung over and cranky....:D

HMizzle Feb 6, 2006 7:09 pm

I think it's as simple as this....

The longer the board is around the more "old timers" you have. A certain percentage of those people just as our real life "old folks" will get progressively more and more bitter as time passes...lol. They then get mad at the newbies and so forth.

So the longer the board is around the more oldtimers you'll have being irritated by newbies.

I'm pretty sure that's a good chunk of the problem.

Olton Hall Feb 6, 2006 8:07 pm

Oh so it's my fault ;) ,just kidding. (Newbie trying to regain any previous Elite status)

J.Edward Feb 6, 2006 8:45 pm

The more things change, the more things stay the same around here

There's been a few kicks to the anthill the past few days - it's gotten us all riled up!

...and speaking of kicking the antill, someone want to bump the looking young and being elite or start a new Fat Pax thread? :p :D :D

We're all crazy.

Can all the moderators join hands and lead us in a chorus of "Kumbaya?"

While you are at it, try giving Gordon a call and see if he will call in a participate. Maybe we can do a huge conference call????????

Purportedly free OnePass Platinum status offer for Chase MasterCard applicants made Platinums livid, non-Platinums salivate, and viscous debate ensued. Continental claimed error, denied status. End.

(exactly 25 words, if you count "OnePass" and "MasterCard" as one word each) :)

Better yet, the good book will call for another Plat-ulence pilgrimage to the holy city of Houston to pray and chant and stampede for more and more freebees

You could drop the word, "free" and do it in 24.

I don't think you really helped the situation with comments that started off in the MC thread :) :

The young elite thread is quite a long read. Better grab yourself some popcorn and biscotti...

A few thoughts

Here my thoughts:

1. I have sometimes been relcutant to post as I feel I do not measure up to the road warriors who come in Gold and PLatinum and feel that having read other posts/replies that there is sometimes a hierarchy (real or percieved) and sometimes people get annoyed with posters questions.

2. Sometimes old timers do not seem to have patience with newbies

3. I actually counted every word of senatorgirth's post so I think I need to slowly drop my mouse and step away from the computer...Maybe I should do something productive like start dinner for my family.

4. Good, bad, indifferent I love flyertalk and all of the "Free and open exchange of ideas" Yes, I know, those are NOT my words but HEY, its 7:30, I had a crazy business trip, almost got trampled on the jetway in EWR today (see my CO Gripe POST) and can not longer be original.

Cheers

Why don't you use the search function to find your answer? You could search on 20 or 30 of the keywords in your post.

LOL!
