Australia

Does any of CO one pass partners fly into Australia, especially BNE. I know CO flys into Cairns by way of Guam, any other ways in on flights that would count towards elite status. Thanks

Qantas will give you miles but not EQMs:

Korean or EVA may also have connections:

Korean or Air France fly at least into SYD. You would earn full eqm, and bonus, depending on class of service.

EVA won't earn you EQM to SYD:
"OnePass Elite qualification miles and points and Elite mileage bonuses may only be earned on Continental Airlines codeshare flights operated by EVA Air to/from Taipei."

I don't think AF goes to SYD. I think that you can take AF to SIN and connect to an AF Flight number (QF op I believe). Alternatively, I guess you could take VS (again, would be the long way around), and get miles and EQMs, but no elite bonus (if that is important). An option that I was considering earlier this year was XXX-br-TPE-br-SIN-ek-SYD/MEL/AKL/BNE. I actually found that to price out better than KE through ICN or most of the other possiblities people have brought up. With that option, you would get EQMs on the way to TPE (and vv), and only base miles on the TPE-SIN and EK flights. It's not a bad option, and while a bit out of the way, adds a bunch more miles if you are interested.

At times, flying CO to HNL and connecting on QF or AC to SYD prices quite well. If you want to break up the transpac flight anyway then this can be quite a good deal. Obviously you get EQM only to HNL, but this is a lot more direct than trying to earn EQM to SYD.

Really, what this is telling you is that the way to fly to SYD (or even better, nonstop LAX-BNE) using Onepass as your program is as an award, not a revenue ticket... if you can get 'em, QF F and J awards are some of the best uses of OP miles.

I haven't checked yet, but do these VS flights have CO flight numbers also? You will only get EQMs if a CO codeshare exists on that flight (you don't have to be booked on the CO flight number, it just needs to have one). For other VS flights you'll just get miles only.

You seem to be correct star_world. It does not appear that CO has their number on the SYD flights.

The SkyTeam timetable shows ITNs via AMS-KUL to Australia where the flights have KLM flight numbers but are MH metal. Would these earn (full) EQM? I want to get to MEL in Jan of ‘07. Of course the landscape (airscape?) may change in the next year, so we’ll see what happens (maybe a new member to SkyTeam which makes Australia an easier destination.)

No, you will not earn any EQM (or even any miles) on an MH-operated flight, no matter whose code is on it (well, if it were a CO codeshare (which doesn't exist AFAIK), then, yes, but otherwise no).

Given the other thread, another possibility is that CO becomes part of Star so you can fly UA transpac... hmmm...

Emirates flys to most AU hubs...

Emirates does not give EQMs unless it's a CO codeshare (which AUS flights are not).

BumpMe! Dec 12, 2005 3:40 pm

Basically, it's KE if you want EQMs to SYD.
Otherwise, CO to CNS and then zilch from CNS to SYD.
(CNS fares are crazy, though.)

MH has got a very good reputation especially in premium classes. KE doesn't.

MH is not a OnePass partner. If you want airlines with reputation in premium classes - take CX, SQ or VS.
