iah-ewr, which side to sit on?
i havent been to ewr in a while and i love checking out the city on the approach. which side is best to sit on, A side or L side?
im torn as i love the D seat on the 762 b/c of the double attention and the freedom of being alone, but id like to check out the city as the sun is setting on the 5pm arrival. any info would be great. |
Newark really is beautiful as the sun is setting. j/k.
The only way to really see the NYC is when you land to the south. For that, you would want A. If you are landing to the north, you won't get much of a city view. You do get to see some really great tank farms though. In my travels, I seem to land to the south more times than not, so I would go with A. |
I agree with Puddy that landing to the south is the only way to get a real view. So your options are 50/50 for a good view or 100% for the double service/privacy. You have to decide which is more important to you.

If you sit on the left you often get great views of cities like Atlanta and Charlotte as well as of the folded Appalachians. The added bonus is the city view if, as the ther posters have noted, you land to the south. You may also get a good view of the Meadowlands (look for the harness horses on the track if it's after 7:30 pm also and they're running that night).

I live ~30 miles south of the field and it seems that they land to the north about 50% of the time in the afternoon. It's really just a question of which way the wind is blowing the day you get here. As others have said, the view from the "A" seats is better if you happen to land from the north and you really can't see NYC that well if coming in from the south. I'd opt for the "A" seat.

The sunset is great - many times I have seen the NYC skyline and sunset
from the middle seat. I would stay in the D seat. |
You didn't mention when you are flying but if it's anytime in the next few months, chances are you will be landing to the north due to the wind. Not the greatest view.
However, why not ask the crew before flight what runway they're using at EWR? The gate agent or FA may know or can ask the flight deck crew. Alternatively, log on to get weather before the flight so you can find out wind direction. Once you're armed with this info, ask for a seat change and if the pax load allows, maybe you can get a good seat. It's worked for me to get views of the Grand Canyon, Mt. St. Helens, and yes, the NYC skyline. If that doesn't work, you can always go to 42nd street and buy a postcard of the skyline. :D |
