Tips on Plat companion UG
What is the best/earliest way to UG a Plat companion? If I check in online, is there any way to UG online? Over the phone? If only at the airport, how early can one do it?
Thanks. |

When checking in with Continental, Platinum and Gold Elite members should check in online, use an eService kiosk or present their Elite card to the airport representative within two hours of their flight departure. When checking in prior to two hours before departure, an Elite member must request a companion upgrade with an airport representative. If space is available, the airport agent will upgrade the companion to First Class/Business Class. Companion upgrades are valid with any paid fare and on a first-come, first-served basis, when seating is available.</font> |

As a gold I am 100% for companions. I usually ask the pc to do it for me.

We (both plats) were booked on last night's (Saturday's) 7:05p EWR-SFO. Seatmap showed 8 empties up front after the Silver run. We got there early and were the last pax to board the 5:00p EWR-SFO that was similarly booked. After we got on in F, there were still 6 empties when the door closed. I think anybody who wanted to upgrade a companion could have done it on that one. |
I have a related question.
My dad is gold elite and my mom is silver. They often flew IAH-EWR-HKG together, on same itinerary. On both IAH-EWR legs, they are both 100% flying First/BF in the last few years. Last time I helped them check, the upgrade was done 2-3 days prior to departure. My question is, I assume my mom gets 100% upgrade mostly because she's travelling with a gold elite. If she's flying solo, then she probably will have a lower chance. Is this correct? |

Back closer to the original topic,
interestingly I'm 0/2 for Gold Elite upgrades this year on CO. I didn't have a companion to upgrade those flights, though. I'm 6/6 for myself on NW, and 3/4 with my companion. So, I'm wondering if one of the reasons I didn't get the CO upgrades is because they held back seats for gate upgrade and a Plt companion got the seats. Anyone know if this is common? If I check in online at T-30 hours and get in the waitlist, can a platinum companion still trump me if there are seats available 2 hours before departure since they haven't "run" the waitlist? |
