Would this get me in trouble?

Lets say I have a ticket on CO WAS-EWR-AMS - CDG with the AMS - CDG leg being on an AF flight with an AF flight number. My return is CDG-EWR-WAS on CO .

Would CO cancel my return ticket if I do not take the AF AMS-CDG flight on the outbound?

If it was booked together, as it sounds like it was, They will probably cancel the remaining part of the trip. I had a similar problem last year: TPA-EWR-AMS-Vienna(KLM) and return. Wanted to cancel AMS-Vienna portion (was gonna go to CPH instead) about a week out. Was told they would have to reissue the ticket AT THAT DAYS FARES...something like $3000. It didn't make much sense to me as 1) it's a different airline and 2) I told them to keep the fare for the KLM portion, but I think there's no way to do it except by reticketing, therefore the last minute fares.

Ended up booking a cheap ticket on AustriaAir(?) and spent another couple hours enroute rather than pony-up the extra $2000.

I do that all the time. Just got back from a trip: outbound: IAH to LGW and retun: ABZ - AMS - IAH.

Hi,
Just to double check, your original ticket was IAH - LGW- ABZ , right ? Which carrier was the LGW - ABZ part on?

If I could hazard a guess, I would say the IT systems are not slick enough where if you miss a flight on an intl carrier it will not cancel your CO segments. And even if it cancelled the CO segments, the gate agent can re-enstate them. Sometimes accidents happen where you are shown as not boarded, etc.
