HoKeY

what does HoKeY mean? ive seen it mant times, only in the CO room. seems as if it stands for some type of BF reward seat words.

HoKeY is the term used to describe the H/K/Y fare classes you need to get the chance to upgrade to BF. For Hawaii, it has now been changed to HooeY - only H and Y can be upgraded.

That is - H,K,Y used to be the classes you could upgrade an international flight from for miles only. Now it's only H and Y for "free". The other classes take cash plus miles.

The aforementioned are all correct technical definitions while the practical definition is:

This may be a stupid question, so forgive if it is...

If you book a flight, say on KLM and wish to upgrade to business, what do you have to pay? Is the miles plus money only on CO tickets on CO metal or have they "infected" the partner airlines, or are we "infected" by using OP miles?
