Is CLE going to close?
If the speculation come true & CO closes CLE will they look for a third hub elsewhere if so, where?
I'm in MSP & soon to be in CHI (MDW & ORD) soon. This could have me jump for sure to NW. Looking for some thoughts & advise. Mosty fly to MSP, DTW, BWI, STL, LIT, TUL, CLE or CMH, & LAX. 75-100k per year. Thanks, Wingtipflier |
Where have people seen that CO will pull out of CLE? All The only thing I've seen is a denial by CO, not that that carries much weight with me.

Who you gonna believe, Continental or the media? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif

I haven't seen this anywhere. Just the denial part. However, when someone is continually denying an accusation it usally has some truth.
My recent trips through CLE have been greeted by less than happy CO employees @ the Pres. Club. No correlation most likely, just a hunch. NW on the other hand in MSP says "thank you" every time they swipe my AMEX? If CLE were to go, where would CO set up its 3rd hub? |
It all fits CO downsizes CLE greatly, NW downsizes MEM greatly. DL downsizes DFW greatly and there you have it,a monopoly of three carriers becoming stronger.

coplatua1k,
Could you explain further? Thanks, Wingtipflier |
I just did a Google News search on "Continental Cleveland" to see if we had missed something. We did...
Continental Adds New Flights Out Of Hopkins Flights Go To Florida POSTED: 8:55 a.m. EDT September 24, 2003 CLEVELAND -- There is good news for Continental Airlines and Hopkins International Airport, NewsChannel5 reported. The airline is expanding service by launching new flights from Cleveland to Sarasota and Daytona Beach, Fla. So if you want to head to sunny Florida this winter, the flights begin Dec. 17. |
xyzzy,
Thanks for the google. I will remain excited about staying at the Hopkins Sheraton for some time.... Are the going to change the airport code from CLE to ERJ, though? Only joking. WTipflier |
Originally posted by xyzzy: It doesn't say if the service will be on a 737 or on an ERJ... CO3481 CLE-DAB, 847 miles, 2:33, O/W Y fare $713.50 CO2284 CLE-SRQ, 969 miles, 2:42, O/W Y fare $678.50 (Edited to include distance, time and Y fare) [This message has been edited by snake (edited 09-24-2003).] |
Jungle Jets they're not for short flights anymore!
Anything over an hour is pushing it in a JJ. I'll connect in a main-line vs having my knees touching my ears. The words "Regional Jet" & "Frequent Flier" have all new meanings. RJ= low rev market equipment. FF= revenue rewards or someone that has a great expense account is welcome w/ CO. |
Consider Hilton Garden Inn blocks from Hopkins with 24/7 shuttle

orinigally posted by Wingtipflier...
"Could you explain further?" Simply a guess that the under performing hubs be reduced or eliminated. DL doesn't really need DFW with CO's IAH, CLE is in the middle of DTW and CVG. And MEM is being reduced by about 20% already. So the so called Axis of Evil can reduced capacity and fill the planes at the stronger hubs. I hope I'm wrong but thats what I see. CO can disappear, and be but a footnote in a Chapter 11 filing somewhere, but I think CLE will still be around.
|
If UA bails on DEN, then CO could add to its presence there.
However DL has SLC..... |
