A Crack in the Armour
It appears the folks at CO are back peddling a bit. Here was a response to my second email on the dumbest thing for a good airline to ever to a FF Program.
Just announced hours ago on the Continental website: Beginning January 1, 2004, the amount of miles and segments/ points awarded toward Elite status for travel on Continental and select partners will change for certain fare classes. You will continue to earn full credit towards Elite status by booking on continental.com throughout 2004. Additionally, revisions have been made to our mileage upgrade policy relative to BusinessFirst and Series 0 upgrade rewards. OnePass Service Center Mark Gartner I read flyertalk for grins... I think some of the CO whiners are out of touch, but this focused effort to punish loyal flyers who mix business and pleasure travelon a single airline is simply unacceptable. Please keep raising the issue with CO Onepass until they admit that this was as stupid as changing COKE! |

But I suspect a majority of their business travellers cannot book on their online site and will suffer for it. They need to backpeddle more. In my very myopic opinion, the only thing this backpedal insures is that the smart airlines, i.e. AA, are less likely than ever to match CO's attack on it's elites-- despite the predictions of those here who said (predictably) "don't try to switch to another carrier-- they'll all have to do this soon."
Would any of you agree that CO's *slight* pullback on this mugging makes that slightly less likely now? But, IMHO, you should still switch to AA 'cause good old CO will get even with it's best customers some other way, even if they retreat today-- "it's in their nature." Maybe they should change their motto to: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/starsmilie.gifContinental http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/starsmilie.gif -- we're not happy 'till YOU'RE not happy [This message has been edited by JonNYC (edited 09-18-2003).] |
