Award Redemption

I recently booked a R/T FC LAX/EWR with miles for a trip 90 + days out. When checking the seats, all but one were available however only the 90,000 mile redemptions were available.

This is an important trip and I have plenty of miles, I just do not like paying 90,000 miles for something that is advertised at 45,000.

As it get's closer to the actual flight date will more seats become available or is it a fixed amount.

How far out for a domestic do you need to book to purchasse for the bait and sitch price ?

Domestic FC is very hard to find. This is especially true on transcon routes like LAX-EWR where they can fill up with revenue customers.

I wouldn't hold your breath.

if you're platinum, can't you take the 90K award and then if a better one becomes available just switch since there is no redeposit fee?

oh, and what about "Award Redemption?" sorry, i had to do it. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Think of it as just using all those BONUS miles from last year going toward the higher award redemption miles! Have to give a little to enjoy the flights you want with those EASY miles.

I usually prefer to arrive to LGA, and "pay the price" of taking a non-direct flight.

It increases the variability of flights you may take, and NWA flights connecting through MSP or DTW are pretty easy to find.

In addition, if you fly NWA, you can get the 25K ticket, and still get upgraded as an elite, esp if you're plat.

Dave, it's like Fly Co to See the Yanks says, if you are Plat. then go ahead and book your flights now then keep checking for standard awards. You can re-deposit your miles and re-ticket without any penalty. I'm doing that now for three IAH-HNL BF seats for March '04. I've already been able to convert the outbound to standard awards and am still looking for the return.
Good luck!
