I Hate IAH
I always avoid it strenuosly, but somtimes it can't be helped. Had to spend 1.5 hours there yesterday. What a stinkhole.
All the food courts suck, the people are rude, and the air smells bad. I was glad to be back in New Jersey later. NEW JERSEY!!! Most people on these boards seem to like it, based on a cursory search. Why? I can't stand it. What's up with that place? Is it just a function of it being in Texas? It can't be. Plenty of fantastic places in the Lone Star state. Does anyone agree? |
I agree. The only good thing about IAH is getting on a plane to go somewhere else like Cancun or Belize.
The food is awful unless your palette is conditioned to the likes of Popeye's Chicken or Bubba's Bar & Grill. The carpet always seemed dirty(probably related to that smell you spoke of). I recoiled in shock when I saw a mother let her baby put its pacifier back in it's mouth after dropping it on the floor. Eeecch! |
Hmm...from the inside of the Prez Club it doesn't seem too bad...maybe I'm missing something?

IAH (and the rest of Houston) is a pit.

Please don't make this thread become Yankees vs. Texans.
I personally prefer Houston to AA's DFW/ORD and DL's ATL. IT's not too big. There is no need to wait 5 minutes for rail train. You can walk to your connection gate less than 15 minutes in most cases. The PC are decent, althought I think EWR's are better. Houston is not a pit. It's a shame people saying that without really knowing the city. |
IAH should improve when the new concourse/terminal is completed. I agree that the food selection is somewhat lacking.
I've only been to Houston on biz trips and have always found the people to be friendly and helpfull. The area around the Galleria is as nice as any "high rent district" in the country. Ample parking. Wide streets. Tremendous selection of retailers and restaurants. [This message has been edited by Billiken (edited 03-26-2003).] |
I don't mind the terminals or the PCs too much, but what I really think is awful about IAH is the landside terminal approach. You sneak in under the shadow of these huge, dark buildings. You can't see where you are because there are retaining walls on all sides, and whereever you get out of your vehicle, you're in gloom and shadow. It's depressing and grim -- not at all what air travel should feel like.
For an experience at the other extreme, drive out the Dulles Toll Road at sunset and hit that final curve with the main IAD terminal all lit up before you... you feel like you're gonna go flying. Driving up to IAH makes you feel like you're gonna go to prison. [This message has been edited by BearX220 (edited 03-25-2003).] |
Could be worse..... it could be ATL <G>

By some strange karmic phenomenon no matter where I am flying to/from I usually wind up having to connect from Gate D10 to somewhere way out on one of the wings of the South Concourse. By the same token I would hate to connect from C126 to downstairs gates at the end of the C1 Concourse (C88?) at EWR. |

I don't care for IAH that much. I think the lay-out of the airport is pretty bad. I hate all those corridors, it's to confusing.
|
Maybe it's a trick to get people to join the PC. I don't find IAH nearly as bad as, say the D terminal in ATL. I was recently waiting for a flight ATL-DAY out of D-33, and that place was absolutely miserable with poor seating and terrible noise pollution from many blaring television sets. I'm surprised that people happily work in such environments. |

On the subject of the city of Houston I spent two days there, one in 1999 and one in 2001 and I did like the city, Enron/MinuteMaid Field is very nice, my only qualm was the weather.
I did use IAH the second time, I flew CO in from LGA and found it quite nice and very well air-conditioned, I did notice the lack of food facilities. On the way out I took an RJ up to STL and the RJ area I was in (gates like 89 and up) was not the best but in no means bad. And finnaly, I am a Yankee http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif ------------------ DC-10's Forever! |
