Changing Flights to get Upgrades

Today I am faced with a full F cabin on my flight from IAH-SFO. I know that the chances for Upgrade are slim due to it being full, therefore I checked the flight loads for todays remaining flights from IAH-SFO, and some of the later flights have open seats in F.

I know that upon checkin at the kiosk, we can often change flights, therefore, if I swap over the other flight, would I qualify for an upgrade assuming that there is an available seat ? Do we have the option for upgrade in this situation ?

You do have the option for an upgrade, but you may not get it straight away. I know I've gotten an upgrade when changing to an earlier flight. For a later one, though, they may not have dumped the unsold seats to the R bucket. You may wish to ask an airport agent since you can only make the change at the airport anyway (without a fee).
