In-flight services from BOS-IAH

I'm going to be flying in economy every week from BOS-IAH and back for the next few months. I looked at seatguru and continental.com and I didn't see much in terms of entertainment or food. Does anyone know what I'll be able to do to keep myself occupied for 4 hours and if I'll be fed?

Thanks

If you do a search on the flights on continental.com, you'll find that all BOS-IAH flights have "snack" in coach. That's often a sandwich (cold or hot), & a candy. But you'll be fed.

If you're on a 737-300, then no inflight entertainment. If it's a 737-700, you can audio/video with screens dropped from the ceiling. Headphones is $5 (or a CO currency coupon) or bring your own. Make sure you have a 2-prong airline headphone plug (available at Radio Shack for a few bucks).

It all depends on what type of AC(aircraft) is flying the route. From taking a quick look at the timetable at CO.com it appears that 4 different ACs (737-300/500/700/800) fly BOS-IAH-BOS route.

If you are flying the 737-500(735) there is NO audio or video entertainment provided by CO. However, you will recieve a meal at meal times which having not flown coach in while I have no idea what it is now.

If you are flying on the 737-300(733) series you may or may not have audio/video entertainment, only a few of the 733s had audio and video equipment installed. However, once again you will recieve a meal at meal time.

Lastly if you are flying on either the 737-700(73G) or the 737-800(738) you will have have both audio and video entertainment available. Usually the video portion is a movie followed by some short subject programming. This months movies can be found at continental.com as well as the selection of audio entertainment for this month and I believe next month as well. Again, you will recieve a meal at meal times, maybe others can comment on the types of food served in coach on that lenght of flight.

Hope that helps,
Dan

One thing to add, if you check-on online you can print a free headset coupon for the flight and avoid the fee of $5.00.

That entertainment is pretty sad. I'm working with a guy from Florida who flies Delta Song and he gets Directv while he's flying. I normally fly United and they offer Movies on the Airbus which is a more comfortable plane. BOS-IAH is a really long haul and the 737 is not the most comfortable aircraft in the world.

Well, tastes vary... I'm very happy with the 733s which operate most of the BOS-IAH flights precisely because there's no inflight entertainment, which means more people sleep so the flight is quieter if you want to work. And most people on FT seem to prefer Boeing to Airbus - I'll take a 733 over a 320 any day. And pick the bulkhead or the exit row and the comfort level in coach is just fine.

However, I wish the width on the 733 matched the width of the A320. For those of us who are "larger", the aisle on the A320 is a couple of inches wider and far less susceptible to running into elbows, knees, and other assorted body parts. ;)

BOS-IAH is not long hual by any standard... Song also doesn't make money (atleast I don't believe they do)... BTW the difference between the Airbus 319/320 and the 737s in general is about 1" of width of the cabin... (IIRC), never the less, its minimal... I'm sure you could fly DL or AA and not have any pillows or food...

Satellite TV isn't a wise option for international carriers like CO, since service is lost outside the continental US.

We rotate the programs monthly, so I'd suggest bringing your own gadgets if you absolutely need to be entertained over the course of a couple of hous - since you'll be flying this route weekly. (Does anyone read, anymore?)

The difference is 1" per SEAT, which is 6 inches. NW uses its standard seats (not wider ones). So, you have an aisle which is about 6" wider. It makes a difference when you're built like linebacker! Trust me, I know.
