1) are there flights on Virgin from JFK (John F. Kennedy International Airport in NYC) that accumulate CO miles? i thought it was just EWR (Newark, NJ).

2) also, YES, be careful not to buy Virgin tickets thinking that you can just give your CO number at check-in. you have to buy CO tickets that happen to be on a Virgin plane.

an advantage to the Virgin codeshare is you get gratis alcoholic embibements in coach class.

Just double checked on the web site and they (CO) will sell you seats from EWR, JFK and IAD.

I'm just checking in from the UK...I flew from EWR to LHR (coach) on a CO tickt last Saturday. The economy line was a total zoo so I went to the first class check in line to check in. There is a man standing at the end of the line who checks your tickets to make sure you are in the right line. I told him that I was CO elite and they told me I could check in here. He said 'Yep, CO says that all the time but we don't recognize CO elite'. He told me next time I would have to go to the economy check in but he let me check in there this time as there was no line there.

I agree about the seat pitch being tight...it got pretty painful towards the end of the flight and I'm only 5' 3". The Virgin flight attendants worked non-stop and were very attentive. I thought the entertainment system was good, not great..it seemed a bit dated to me.

Now that I've returned I'll second MillieV's report. Upon check in at ewr, we went straight to the uc line. An security agent took our tickets to the uc counter and the Virgin agent refused to check us in. He then made an attempt with the premium economy agent who agreed to check us in, but we were still reprimanded for not being in the correct line as Virgin does not recognize Continental Elite status. When I reached the gate I thought I'd ask the agent if I would be allowed advanced boarding priveliges. That question received an emphatic NO! It seems this must have come up once or twice before.
Once on board, the service was unbelievable. I've never seen stewards so genuinely concerned about taking care of the passengers. However, the aircraft itself was a bit beat up and not very clean. Legroom was very tight and no better than Continental coach class. Lucklily, I was able to reserve 32B&C for the return flight on the Continental 777. Legroom was excellent and the aircraft was spotless. If I could combine Virgin's service with Continental's aircraft it would be the best of both worlds.

FWIW:
VS coach is definitely more cramped than CO coach!

I couple of years back, flying EWR-LGW on a DC-10, our CO flight had rudder problems and we returned to EWR.

Within a few hours we were on a VS flight, 747 I recall, where I could make a direct comparison on the seats. CO felt much roomier in terms of Y seating than did VS.

For a long haul in Y, I'd suggest CO over VS for seating, though you do forfeit the perceived fun/coolness of flying VS.

since the Virgin club in Terminal B is outside of security, can I check in for my CO flight (on Virgin flight metal) to London in the Virgin club (as a Presidents Club member)? thanks.
