GO ________________ !

No, I'm not hinting at an expletive. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

For those who get home delivery of The New York Times, did you notice Continental's folded poster insert inside? As the official airline of the New York City Marathon (are they flying the winning runners roundtrip from Nairobi?), Continental inserted a folded poster for people to hold up to support the runners. The blank allows you to fill in the name of the person you are supporting. On the back is the 'Spectator Guide' including rules on how to be a good spectator (it made for a funny read) and a chart to help you plan when and where to stand at various locations this Sunday.

How much did CO pay for this? With all of those cutbacks and cries of imminent bankruptcy to Congress, CO certainly surprised me with their heavy spending on spectator posters and their placement in today's paper.

Anybody here going to use them on Sunday?

Me thinks of some choice words to put in the "blank"...hehehe

A NYT ad like this probably cost as least as much as Gordo's bonus.

I just measured it---

18 1/2 inches across
13 inches down

3 color (gold, royal blue, gray) on both sides

Folded not in the middle but about 4/5 of the way across. Thick, glossy paper stock on both sides.

You have to spend money to make money.

That depends upon how you spend it. Instructing people to be positive, smile, and never show a down face certainly turns me off to a company which to me states the obvious.

Gee, if I was running in the marathon those posters showing "GO MisterNice' would certainly spur me on. Maybe the Newark P-Club ladies would move faster and be less nasty if we wrote their name on the poster.

Hmmmmmmmm. How would one write FCTSTY (expanded but in small letters) on the card?

MisterNice

In the 'OK to say on TV/ near a Reverend' category:
GO jump in the lake!
GO teach Gordo to suck eggs!
GO for a long walk on a short pier!

So all normal operational budgets (which for a major corporation include advertising) are to be cut to zero during difficult times ??? Seemes to me a sure path to bankruptcy.

At least these advertising dollars were in association with promoting people and athletics (we all need to do a little more exercise) instead of the typical Continental, self serving "we won yada yada award".
