New CO Rules

I'm fairly new to the Elite game. Do the new CO rules screw people flying on an economy ticket for 2002?? I can't find it on their website.

Not at all. It's pretty much business as usual at CO for the upcoming year, with the only significant change being that non-Elites may no longer use miles to upgrade domestically on Q, T, or V fares.

"Well you tell me - they do make you bend over"

You do it voluntarily, as avek00 says:

"Thank you for choosing Continental Airlines, a proud member of the SkyTeam Alliance. "

SkyTeam? You're kidding, right? Over my bend-forwarded body.

The DL/CO/NW alliance agreement includes provisions whereby Delta will seek to gain entry for CO, NW, and presumably KLM into the SkyTeam Alliance.

I thought that I noticed some new expediated processing fees for onepass award tickets made less than 21 days (Starting in 03). There were a couple of different levels of charges ($75 is one that I seem to remember). Since I have made 3 award tix less than a week before flight left, I figure taking trip in 02 instead of 03 saved me over $200. Somehow I knew this benefit would go away, I always save some miles for unexpected trips that pop up at the last minute. Always thought it was a good strategy, benefits are slowly disappearing.

Where are the new rules for '03 posted. I'm Plat Elite and haven't heard anything yet about 2003 OP changes.

No reason to worry about changes...

Given the difficulty (in my personal exprerience) in finding standard rewards farther than 3 weeks out, this is essentially a charge on most standard rewardss.

Very true. They might just "happen" to release seats in that time window, just when it would cost fees to book. Anyone know if the fees would apply if you were waitlisted and it cleared? There's a real potential for abuse here.

And the fees are a blatant money grab because e-ticketing eliminates the old excuse about having to drop everything to print a ticket and FedEx it out. What's next...charging "lost ticket fees" if you don't present an e-ticket receipt at the ticket counter?

As for T & Q, it's unchanged for now, but don't forget that Delta has insULT, and they may choose to "simplify" the structure under a DL/CO/NW alliance by doing it Delta's way.

Overall, I think the whole CO upper-management mentality of, "Times are tough, so we need to invent new fees and charge more" is fundamentally wrongheaded. It'll mainly help Southwest, Jet Blue, AirTran, etc.
