Weighing in on CO
 

Today's Cleveland Plain Dealer's Travel section reports that CO is contemplating having passengers weigh in along with their luggage in order to determine exactly how much weight is on board each flight for fuel considerations, etc.--no word yet on whether charges will be made for being over certain weights.

Dunno what good it would do...since you can't see a real live ticket agent in CLE....once you step-up to the Electronic Check-in if you'll be over weight just set some items to the side or step off the scale

Can you just see the brain trust in Houston, all sitting around a big conference table, trying to come up with ways to restore profitability to the company... Here's some of how it might look, feel free to join in...

Suit 1: Okay people, we need to save the company, who has some ideas?

Suit 2: Well, we could simplify our fare structure, eliminate Saturday stays. Maybe even lower our fares slightly to take advantage of the cost advantage we have on our competitors?

Suit 1: What, are you crazy? That's our niche, gouging those last minute customers! We've got to get them back but at those same fares or higher! Next!

Suit 3: Well, we could install scales in the floor, in front of the E-Ticket machines. We could weigh the passengers and their bags, and then charge them EVEN MORE, but this way, they won't know how much UNTIL THEY GET TO THE AIRPORT!

Suit 1: See, suit 2? This is the outside the box kind of thinking that will save Continental! Brilliant Suit 3. Here, take the keys to my Porsche, just make sure to have it washed before you bring it back tomorrow!

No doubt, Continental is SOLID for the future. Let's face it, Americans are getting bigger everyday! Looks like a real "Growth market".

They are doing this in CLE, the RJ Capital of the world and you folks can't piece things together?

More accurate human weight, less approximation margins, more fuel, longer legal range, more RJ routes, less 737s...

Coming next...forget the luggage sizers...at all CO boarding areas...body sizers for CO passengers! If you don't fit, you hafta buy two tickets, which will bring lottsa smiles to Larry's happy band of bean counters!

Actually, on a recent EWR-CLT flight on a EJ they did say the plane was over-weight and asked for volunteers to take the next flight--even though the cabin itself was only two thirds full!

Hey, if they've got the hold full of high yield cargo, then why bother with passengers, right?
