Silver: CO or NW?
Howdy! I'm using a combination of NW and CO flights in the first quarter of '03 to gain status. Onepass desk confirms that status
will last through the last day of February, 2005. What are the pros and cons in deciding between CO's Silver or NW's Silver? Are there any differences? If so, which would you select and why? Help is very much appreciated. Cheers! |
Simply choose the one you'll fly the most. All else being equal, I'd choose Northwest. Silver Elite status (in either program) will result in more EUAs on Northwest Airlines than Continental Airlines. Northwest's promotions seem to be better than Continental's.
I used to prefer OnePass because of the Frontier and America West partnerships. With those airlines departing the program, I believe the tide has turned and WorldPerks is the better program. |
Thanks, trans!
I appreciate your thoughts on this matter. Happy Trails! |
Though I have a CO Platinum card, I'd suggest going with NW. CO keeps tarnishing the program and making anti-elite and anti-mileage changes. See International Upgrade Policy.
When I was a Silver it was a mid level tier on CO in the mid 90's when nobody liked CO. I got many benefits. Today,CO's attitude seems to reflect that it has plenty of Golds and Platinums as well as premium revenue passengers. I do notice many Golds and PLTs on flights. Thus, your chances of upgrading are slim. CO also commands high fares and NW offer bizflex making NW the better economic choice. The question you must weigh for yourself is which carrier is more convenient for the places you will fly them. Moreover, if CO uses regional jets on your routes avoid CO. |
Thanks, jm!
It just happens that NW is better able to accomodate my NASCAR ventures from the LEFT Coast. I am now leaning heavily in favor of max accumulation toward NW Silver! [This message has been edited by afrugal1 (edited 08-08-2002).] |
I posted a similar question in the NW forum last month. Got lots of Good responses and have decided to earn my status on NW this year even though I am currently a CO Gold. I am not sure how to post the link, but dig back about ten days and it had a similar topic to yours except for Gold. As a silver on NW you do not have a "special" elite phone number, but the one on CO is really not that great anyway.

Thanks, world! As previously stated, I am going for NW Silver in 1Q '03. Sadly, not able to take advantage of the $132.00 round-trip RNO-BWI. This would have put me over the top given the bookings that I have already made. Anyway, life goes on and I will continue to
consult the NW, CO and Mileage Run boards for exceptional opportunities. You are all very gracious in your assistance and I thank you for that! |
