Miscellaneous EUA Data-Points

Miscellaneous EUA Data-Points

Just got back from EWR-AUS today (5/16/05) no EUA, but I was able to do a bit of an audit on the flight and thought I would pass along the information to y'all.
  • Equipment: 737-500 (10 FC)
  • FC Inventory: A=0, D=0, Z=0 until 1 day (approx 36 hours when I checked). At roughly the 36 hour mark, the computer updated the inventory to reflect the additional four FC seats, hence the inventory went to A=4, D=4, Z=4.
  • Upon checking in at the airport (YYZ was my origin) inventory was A=3, D=3, Z=3
  • Attempted to view the standby list in EWR for the EWR-AUS flight, but a rude and pretentious gate agent by the name of Michael prevented me from doing so.
  • Upon landing in AUS I was able to peek at the computer inventory for FC and found the following:
    • 3 battlefield upgrades performed to Plats on H fares
    • 4 Y fares (AU)
    • 1 D fare
    • 2 Z fares
  • Unable to comment on details from the non-cleared upgrade list (thank you Michael... btw, I believe your station manger would like to have a word with you) but from the brief glimpse that I caught of the list, there seemed to be roughly 12-15 names on it.

Commentary: I do not have much experience with the EWR-AUS flight as far as upgrades go, but the fact that the only people that were in ‘R’ were Plats on H’s suggests that other Plats, such as myself on a V fare, as well as all Golds and Silvers on H-L fares did not make the upgrade. Ergo, the question I have to ask is that if high fare Golds and Silvers are not making the list, in addition to any Plats, how does this affect their purchasing patterns? –And if it does affect it, is to the extent of making a noticeable impact to boys down on Smith St.

PS: The J.Edward will finally be turning 21 early June and if any Fters are in the greater Houstoria area this would be a great excuse for mischief and mayhem…

Nicely done Mr. Edwards. Hopefully your trip was nicer than the GA at EWR. What, pray tell, was his rational for blowing you off in regards to the wait list? Even if you have a snowballs chance in hell of clearing the list, is it really that hard to smile and press a couple keys to add you?

In addition, happy birthday in advance!

This all has to do with the EWR GA attitude we all have experienced at times, I will add, not all the time.

Wish I was 21, Happy Birthday!!!

While it might have been done more nicely than you describe, I see no problem with the gate agent not showing you the waitlist. Personally, I would not want other passengers to know my name, fare or "rank" except for those carrying out company business. Privacy is the issue.

If your name is called, it is called. If it is not, it is not.

Absolutely correct. Please allow me to clarify what 'the list' looks like. There are the first 6 characters of your name in the following format: L L L L L F . So, should your name be Larry Kellner the list will show 'KELLN L'. There are no OnePass numbers, save status (designated by Plat, Gold or Silver) and the remaining information, mostly numbers, are related to computer records (I think one of them is an eTKT number, one is the station number of where you checkd in, I cannot recall if they list fare class). I have never noticed any credit card or personal information on such lists.

It has been my experience that GAs will post this list near the gate (similar to Delta's TV monitors) as to give hopeful elites an idea as to their chances. Some do, some don't and sometimes I don't care enough to check -- but in any event, I have never noticed any personal information beyond the name and status.

I do not have a problem with the afore information being published (of course, to each his own) but I would be greatly concerned if any numbers relating to credit cards, address or telephones were posted on such a quasi public list.

The best solution I have seen belongs to Delta -- TV monitors that are real-time and answer all the 'dumb' questions in regards to the flight (FC, Standby, length, weather, will there be food, seat maps, etc.). Perhaps when CO flies back to the black, we'll go back to the future in a non-dizzying terminal Eish array of informative TV's positioned at hub gates.

He told me that 'it was none of my business' . Then again, I was dressed in my less-than-professional college garb and had a massive blanket over one arm. Hmph! As an elite member it is my business (turns out I was not on the list anyway). Oh well, that all we ask for is a ring ad in the in-flight mag started to look real appealing from my non-reclining 8D seat.

One would tend to think not, but if your name just happens to be Michael (and you worked at gate 99 on 5/16 8:42am) who knows what you think

Now that would be damn funny. Rent a conference room and get security passes for those not flying in for the grand event.

Hey J.Edward....where are you based from...I will be at EWR June 11 and 12, that weekend. I am picking up a friend and we are going to Atlantic City for the weekend.

I think DL's display only had 3 characters of the last name. But United's display is better as it's even more discrete. It says:

"The passengers in the following seats should remain in the gate area for a possible upgrade: 05F, 08D"

Just can't resist.....Not in EWR. Shocking.
