AWA Upgrades

Anyone have any luck getting elite upgrades on AWA in the recent past? I was wondering if the change of status has had any real/perceived effect.

Do you mean America West? Much to FCTSTY's chagrin, if you want to abbreviate America West Airlines, use the IATA code for the airline; it is more ubiquitous. The code for America West is HP.

e.g CO - Continental
UA - United
AA - American
LH - Lufthansa
DL - Delta
JI - Midway Airlines
KL - KLM
WN - Southwest

- HobokenFlyer

As an aside what do you think HP stands for because it certainly doesn't stand for America West! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I flew America West in mid April and got upgraded on all segmentents on a Continentl Plat. status.

I was upgraded BWI-LAS-OAK, OAK-PHX-BWI as a CO Gold a few weeks ago, no problem. And is it just me, or are HP's FC seats a bit more comfortable than CO's? At least that's what I remember thinking on the PHX-BWI leg (on a A319, IIRC). I know, I know, that doesn't make up for the lack of meal service... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Hasn't HP (Happy Passengers) discontinued their co-share agreement with CO? That may be the reason upgrades are hard to come by.

Historical note: when the IATA was assigning a code to America West, one offered was VD. They chose to pass on that one and took HP instead.

The CO-HP divorce ain't final till September, by the way CO's treating HP you'd think HP had VD.

And the answer is. . . . . .

2 upgrades out of 4 legs. . . .one was a CRJ so had no F.

They treated me like gold (even tho I'm only a lowly Silver ;&gt; )

The experience was great--AWA has improved a great deal over the past several years my flights last August really surprised me--these flights just confirmed the trend. IMHO, they are slightly ahead of NW and a bit behind CO (again, IMHO).

Hub Phoenix, or so I've been told. I think there was a thread on this in the HP forum several months ago.

Ok, ok, I'll use HP, even tho it's counterintuitive http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

After these flights, it just makes me even sadder that HP - CO are splitting up.

Why HP? Well, for starters, AW was already assigned. HP was chosen to represent hub Phoenix. For radio communication, America West is referred to as "Cactus."</font>

why HP? hub phoenix? who cares? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

i am a little unclear on what that has to do with upgrades on America West Airlines.

Obviously the people who posted earlier in this thread care. Threads do tend to evolve beyond the original raison d'être. I think that's a good thing, as most of the threads on this board are started with simple, uninteresting questions.

Perhaps you and your multiple personalities should consider departing our (formerly) happy community. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/tongue.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I thought it was because of (sky)Harbor-Phoenix.
