Paper ticket vs. E-ticket

I almost always buy my tickets online, and use e-tickets, even though I have seen many instances where having a paper ticket would have been very helpful. I'm considering swithching to paper, but I do seem to change tickets often, and find the e-tickets so much easier to deal with. Is there a compromise such as using an e-ticket, but getting a paper ticket printed at the counter right before checking in for the flight? Will they do this for you?

They'll fight you on it, no doubt. I think CO has joined the group of airlines that will charge you $10 extra for a paper ticket now...
