USELESS PC at EWR Terminal A
I'm flying to Chicago frequently these days, so I fly out of EWR terminal A. The PC is located OUTSIDE security, but inside a perimeter, where you can't access it without an itinerary or a boarding pass.
The problem that I have is that I can't really use the PC to relax in, because I'll still have to go out, and clear security afterwards. I don't know about the rest of the week - but on Monday mornings (which is when I fly) - the line is frequently over 1 hour long - which doesn't really leave me any time to use the PC. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? What are the odds that CO will do something EVENTUALLY? I can't imagine that there is much use to a PC where you'll have to leave the PC to get to your gate at least 1.5 hours prior to flight time??? |
While what you are saying is true, I think it is an unfortunate effect of 9/11, not really CO's fault.
CO had planned to move the P-Club from that center area of the concourse for quite some time. So, then they started building it and in the midst of the construction the entire air travel experience changed. There really is nothing that they can do about it anyway, unless of course they wanted to move all of the x-ray equipment up to the front of the concourse, but that would block the monorail lobby area. In the past, having an airport club outside security was actually a nice thing. It meant that you could call a meeting, or conduct an interview in the club w/o the person meeting you having to wait for security lines. If I am not mistaken, the AA club is outside security in Term A, and the now-closed US club was too... the UA RCC is inside security. The other nice thing about having a club outside security is that you can still use it if you are flying on a different carrier that day... doesn't really matter at Terminal C, but assume that you happen to be flying AA, or UA. Now, this doesn't necessarily ring true anymore with the new security program, but the way it was intended would have allowed you to go to the P-Club and then walk to the AA/UA gates and only go thru security once, rather than twice. Now, with that said, some other airport layouts will still allow this. For example ATL, PIT & ORD... assuming that you're flying domestic, once you are thru security you can go anywhere. I am sure that there are other examples of this, but those are off the top of my head. FWIW Most of the airport clubs in the main terminal of LGA are outside security. I'm in that PC a lot on Thursday afternoons. The security line is never more than 10 minutes long at that time. I guess I'm just lucky. It dod look like they were building something near the entrance (some glass walls and stuff) when I came through on Sunday. Maybe they're gonna re-route the entrance so you go in after security. I guess I'll find out Thursday.

I was there today and noticed a glass partion has been built near the PC door. The agent at the PC said that PC members would soon have a separate screening area so that they would not have to go through security again after leaving the club. From the looks of it, it should be completed fairly soon.

WOW! I stand corrected... that is really cool!
now there's a true honest-to-goodness enhancement!!! |

Sounds excellent - as long as I can use the new line to catch my HP bus back to PHX every week. I really hope they put a new line in though - it'll save me another 10 minutes.
Just to clarify, my original thinking on the wall was that they would re-route it so the only way you could get into the PC is after security - eliminating the entrance before security. I like the separate screening line plan a lot better though. [This message has been edited by FlyinMike (edited 01-29-2002).] |
Does anyone know if the PC in Terminal B is situated the same as the one in terminal A?
Thanks |
To my knowledge, there is no PC in terminal B. There is a Northwest World Club halfway up the corridor to the gates that NW flies out of.
It is after security, so one can stay there up till just before flight time. |
Thanks NJ. I'm flying CO codeshare on VS. They should let us into the Worldperks club.

Thanks for the info on the VS club. Since the WP club is past security, I'm likely to go there, unless there's a compelling reason to stay in the VS club.

Please be careful regarding the layout of terminal B.
There are three different secured areas and they do not connect. Look at the map here: http://www.newarkairport.com/aviation/etmain.HTM The World Club is halfway up the hall of the rightmost wing (gates 40 to 48). I do not believe VS flys from those gates. Find out what a typical departure gate is for them, and then see what is available in that wing. It's stupid, I know, but EWR is only one of 50 or so airports that is going to have to re-evaluate their secured areas for connections post 9/11. |
