What is the sequence number?
 

I am on Flt. 40 tomorrow from IAH to EWR. My sequence number is 8. Does that mean I am the 8th person to check in?

Yes, you are number 8. Note that even though you check in at exactly the 24 hour point, there can be other people on connections who can check in before you.

And also keep in mind now that fare class affects upgrade order, even a Plat checking in sequence #1 can have people above him on the upgrade list.

however, as Channa and I discovered on sunday, checking in quick helps, as there was someone else on an I fare who got the UG while we didn't, he was seq 3, Channa was 4...

Just to add to this...
 

Scenario #1:
Colleague and I on same flight, both Plat; both 'N' fares. Checkin online; I am #1; he is #2. Upgrade at gate - 1 seat left, I get it(no other higher fare classes above us)

Scenario #2:
A week later, exact same thing - EXCEPT, EUA goes 3 hours before flight and he gets the last seat. Why - b/c even though we both have 'N' fares, he bought his 13 days before flight, I bought mine 9 days before flight... pre-airport EUA uses booking date, not check in time.

So, the CO upgrade policy of:
"Booking date/time: All else being equal, the sooner Elite members book their flight, the better their upgrade chances.
Check in time: If your upgrade is processed from the standby upgrade list at the airport, check in time will be used in place of booking date/time." is definitely being followed.


Overall guess that means ya gotta be the first to buy the fare class and first to check in to have the best shot at the upgrade(all other things being equal)!

Where do you find the sequence number???

I printed out a boarding pass for a flight tomorrow EWR-LAS and I see on the right side under Elite Access ..32...could I possibly be #32?

It's also on your bag tags, if you pay close attention.

You'll also find it in the upper left of the on-line boarding pass (the part they sometimes tear off and keep). Looks like:

Flt: 2611
Seq: 19
Seat: 12B

Isn't there more to this number? While I usually check-in close to the 24 hour mark. However, this past weekend in Houston I was not able to check-in until getting to the airport on Sunday (no computer and couldn't use airport kiosk the day before). I checked in around 6:20am for a 8:00am flight on a 764... I could have sworn my sequence number was in the 300's... how would that be?
