I fly EWR - ORD every other weekend and out of 15 segments I got EUA 14 times. I got EUA for this Fri on Sun and for the return on this Sun it was last night (Mon) at 8:30 pm. It's been working well for me but I hope I didn't just jinx myself.

While real elites get the vast majority of upgrades, 2% of the total upgrades is a lot for people who aren't flying CO day in and day out.

I think you're reading too much into the numbers. It matters not how many comped platinums there are. It's very simple, for every 100 upgrades given to platinums two were given to comped platinums.

Its easy to massage numbers to give the message you want them to give. Like the example of BF rewards, up 17% relative to 2003, but we didn't inquire as to if its # or #/available seats. because the # of available seats has gone up 20%, and then you're down 2.5% or so Y/Y
The number stated was the relative number of awards redeemed. If the number of seats increased then I would expect an increase in redemption. But we have no data on that. The point Larry was making here was that if people were unhappy with the award costing too many points then people wouldn't have redeemed more. I don't necessarily agree with that point, but that's what he said.
