A Thought For the Big Do @ IAH

What do you folks think about including our real world jobs on our names tags or some sort of listing to be handed our during the event. Beyond the fun part of matching faces to FT names that will already occur - and I apologize in advance for scaring anyone - I thought it would also be interesting to see what people do for a living. Imagine learning more about the great cross section of society and careers that make this forum such a vibrant place. Heck, you might even learn something beyond the "new math" behind the 735 reconfigs!

Anyhow, just a thought....

I think that's a great idea, it may help us better understand each other's travel needs/habits.

I'm not scared...I'm the Air/Waste Programs Manager for Baker Petrolite (part of Baker Hughes) and most of my travel involves internal compliance auditing or environmental field support for our facilities.

FWIW

Well I didnt think about simply posting it here, but I am a Project Manager/Consultant for a document management software and services company that focuses on the legal and corporate vertical markets. My business travel, which is mostly domestic, is due to sales, training and status meetings with clients and prospects. I also love to travel for fun, usually to the west coast or europe (that is unless I can grab more of the $275 trips to HNL!).

I am unsure of my ability to obtain platinum this year since I barely scrapped by last year and my territory shifting to the CHI, WAS and ATL.

Might scare some people...

Think of the possiblities - a cardiologist could have a lot of people coming up to him or her saying, "doctor, I've had this pain in my chest, what do you think?" Or, "you're a purchaser of [insert your own noun here], I happen to sell that, let's make a deal."

Then again, maybe not. There are only a few hundred of us, and we are much more seasoned at ignoring people next to us :) , so perhaps that would not be a problem.

If I get bored I think I'll write "Sex Therapist--perversion specialist" on my tag.

Isnt that a requirement with that name?

jimcoddington Mar 22, 2005 6:31 pm

I think this is a great idea

After working in human resources management for over 10 years in Corporate America, I gave up my job last September 2004 to pursue my dreams and passion of becoming a teacher. I am a professor at Lincoln College in Normal, IL during the week, and during the weekends I am an eBay University Instructor.

I think this is a great idea because most of my human resource contacts came from networking at seminars and conferences.

Jim :)

Purely optional. And I hate to have my options expire worthless.

I hope that this 'DO' is constructive for you guys. I know that there are many things everyone is not happy with, hell, that goes for the employee groups too. I know there are many things that I would like to see changed, and I am hoping that some positive changes will result from this. Good luck to all!!! :p

I had a brother-in-law that crashed a private Toyota function at a hotel restaurant once by saying that he was the company proctologist. He had a very interesting evening hearing about people's proctological problems.

I'll give it a go...

The J.Edward was born 'n bred in Houston as both his parents are in oil and gas exploration. After two years at a college in the Pacific NW (hence all my comments about PDX) I decided to transfer back down to University of Houston. I'm finishing my undergrad at UH (Finance and Philosophy) as well as my graduate studies (joint MBA/JD program).

I currently work evenings as a Host at Carrabba's in West Houston as well as helping my parents with their line of work (geophysics). Personally, I am very interested in the airline industry (always have been since my days as a wee one) and am hoping that I can provide a good case for Continental to start an undergrad intern program. Hey, it’s clean, cheap and reliable labor!

I discovered my fondness for traveling when my father use to take me on his business trips and have always jumped at any opportunity to go places. I’m pretty easy to spot in the travel domain as I always carry my 8 x 10 quilt that grandmother gave me when I was born. (The FA’s always ask me ‘where’s the kid’) Also, people tell me I have very blue eyes… not quite sure what that one is about.

Anyway, that’s about it for the J.Edward. Tomorrow (Wednesday) I’m going to swing by Smith Street and drop off a letter commending an excellent FA I recently had (I typically just mail such things in - but this one was really good!) as well as drop off Mom at Hobby. (She has to go up to Oklahoma and would rather take a WN 737 over an ERJ... hmmmmm....)

I’m looking forward to meeting all of you come early April!

Regards,
The J.Edward

PS. If anyone is looking to buy a home that can accommodate horses in the Houston area PM me. Parents are trying to sell one of their homesteads – 3+ acres, pool, barn, raised garden, second garage and quite neighborhood.
