EWR - SEA 12:00 on Tuesday I was on waitlist (plat - got on it at 7:30 at PVD airport). There was one seat left and I saw a discussion between an Elite and FA about getting upgraded to that seat. She said she couldn't do it.
Seat was still empty and I overheard FA talking to gate agent saying "I told passenger we weren't allowed to do the upgrade - this MUST be dealt with!" - obviously she didn't want to deal w/ upset passengers w/ empty seat in First. Just before door closed agent came in and did upgrade for the last seat- fortunately it was me :-)

Now, the other interesting thing was that I was in 1A, she then went and took meal orders starting from the front but without asking me! After getting everyone else's order she came back and got mine - wonder what that was about. Fortunately there was at least one entree left besided tricolor pasta so it wasn't a big deal for me (though the steak would have been nice). Service otherwise was excellent throughout flight.
Maybe they somehow thought I was a non-rev? I wouldn't be on their manifest since last minute upgrade.

She probably skipped over you at first because you weren't on the manifest and because you got a last minute upgrade as opposed to the confirmed passengers.

If you talk to the FAs much, you'll learn that they have no idea about what percentage of pax in FC are on A fare vs. EUA upgrades and such. The FA probably thought that she'd give all the "real" FC pax their meal choices before you, since you were only upgraded. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I was on a flight recently where the FA was discussing routing and fares with a pax. He was flying IAH-ATL-EWR because he explained that the fare was only $450 as opposed to $1100 or something if he flew nonstop to EWR. She inquired if that fare was for first class, or if he got an upgrade.
