Upgrades on Virgin-CO codeshare

An associate traveling with me asked a question. We are both in London and he is flying back via JFK on a Virgin/CO codeshare. The plane is a 747 with Upper Class. He is a CO Onepass member.
1.) Can he upgrade with miles to upper class?
2.) How many miles?
3.) If he is traveling Sat when should he do this?

Thanks in advance

1) Yes, if CO-purchased seats are available and he is booked on a CO ticket in Y, H or K.

2) 20,000 each way

3) ASAP. Before the 72-hour blockout rule kicks in.

I flew LHR-EWR on Sunday. Well worth it! Overall experience is so much better than BizFirst.

3.) Immediately

2.) 20,000 miles, one-way

1.) maybe, depending on availability-- and, of course, he must have a HoKey fare.
Currently the upgrade availability on the two 747 flights into JFK look somewhat promising.

[sorry, rocky-- posted at the same time-- didn't want to make it seem like an echo]
