Welcome New Parnter AirEuropa = Double Miles!

I suppose growth plans for an alliance are still in the works.

Earn double miles for a limited time
To celebrate this addition to the OnePass program, we’re offering double miles on all Air Europa flights from November 1 through November 30, 2001. So get to know our new partner while you get closer to reward travel.

Any CO announcement that does not include the word "enhancement" has a potential to be a nice deal.

I'm not familiar with AirEuropa (I actually don't think I've ever heard of them); has anyone here flown w/this airline?

Air Europa was once owned by Halcon Viajes, the largest travel agency in Spain. It was never a charter however their international business section never advanced beyond the European mentality of business class- better meal, middle seat blocked off but same pitch as coach and oh, don't forget the dividing curtain!

I always enjoy double miles and with the choices now offered to travel in Europe, AirEuropa is very competitive in pricing. Plus this offers more codeshares within Europe, something CO has been lacking but NW has had with KLM.

Therefore, I think it is great that CO is taking on the big boys of OneWorld by partnering with an airline in Spain, just as AA/BA did with Iberia.

Has anyone informed CO about this new partnershp??? I just tried to book a flight from EWR-MAD-BCN in November and received the following reply:
Barcelona (BCN-Aeropuerto Internacional de Barcelona) is not currently served by Continental or its partners. You may modify your search criteria, or call 1-800-300-1547 for assistance.

The codeshare is supposed to start on November 1st. Nice of reservations to load it in the system. Perhaps there's some government approval holding this up?

Edited after I looked at the original press release.

Worldbanker,
Can you clarify something? Is the codeshare deal just for flights within Spain, or does it apply to all flights including US to Spain flights. I thought I read that it is just for internal Spain flights, but your post says ALL Air Europa flights.

happymob Sep 28, 2001 12:22 pm

Thye codeshare is onmly on specific Air Europa flights (like 3 of them). It apparently does not include certain intra-Spain flights (Madrid to Bilbao for example).

However, you can earn CO status miles on all Air Europa flights code-share or not. So you can fly JFK-MAD and still get miles.

From the CO press release:

Subject to government approval, Continental and Air Europa plan to start codesharing effective November 1, 2001 on Air Europa-operated flights between Madrid and Barcelona, Malaga and Palma de Mallorca; and on Continental-operated flights between Madrid and New York/Newark and between New York/Newark and Atlanta, Boston, Chicago/Midway, Chicago/O'Hare, Cleveland, Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis/St. Paul, New Orleans, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington/Dulles and San Juan, Puerto Rico. These flights will display the designator codes of both Continental (CO) and Air Europa (UX) and will be marketed by both carriers.

Effective November 1, 2001, members of Continental's frequent flyer program, OnePass, will be able to earn and redeem miles on all Air Europa flights and members of Air Europa's frequent flyer program, Fidelitas, will be able to do the same anywhere on Continental's network.

The press release does not mention status miles, but the elite qualification page does.
