Ht_redneck, your experience flying from CA to SAT on HP seems very similar to mine -- except that upon arriving at SAT, I was mystified regarding where all the cabs were.

Has anyone out there noticed disappearing taxi stands at other airports?

Actually I didn't notice since my mother in law picked me up. However, after we drove away she asked me the same thing.

Given the observations of them moving parked cars away from the terminals I have to assume they were related.

Did you get a cab and where did it come from?

A SAT airport employee with a handheld radio saw me looking around at where the taxi stand used to be. He asked if he could help me. I asked about getting a cab, and he radioed for one. The driver said that they were keeping the cabs at a remote lot and sending them in only on an as-needed basis.

Meanwhile, this USA Today article isn't good for my comfort level -- "material witnesses" were to depart SAT for SAN last Saturday.

Ms. Fishbait here:

Maybe off topic, but as I rifle thru Hubby's carryon, I have a dilemma: Local reports (EWR)tell of confiscation of disposible razors and shaving cream.. Anyone had this happen? Just wondering what to take out/leave in this bag......

Hey boomer, u were on my flight from PBI to IAH on friday. Wasn't it strange in IAH, there was really no one there and all the places just sitting out on the tarmac. I went on to LA, and first wasn't full either. Yesterday on my return it wasn't full from LAX-IAH, I got my friend upgraded. </font>
Yes it was very empty.

Too bad I didn't know we were on the same flight. I would have enjoyed the company.

And btw, who says I was on your flight, maybe you were on my flight http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

One more note, On my SLC-IAH flight on monday. During the safety demo(the flight didnt have video) the f/a's actually put on the life vests. I hadn't seen that in a long long time.

Now, if we can only get them to speak slowly when they read the safety briefing. I know most of this crowd knows all the details, but I worried if the other passengers do.

878/19 Sept/EWR-IAD ran about 40% in the back and had 3 empty in FC.
All the E-Ticket machines were up and running at EWR and except for what appeared to be a more careful look than before at the security stations, the whole process took about the same as it always did previously. There were no questions about sharp objects and I had lots of nailclippers, small scissors, etc. in my bags, all of which I was allowed to carry on just as in the past. There also was no opening or checking out of my briefcase to inspect my laptop.
Since we did get to EWR two+ hours early, we had a lot of time to kill in an airport and PC that were relatively empty by prior standards.
Inside IAD it seemed almost as busy as usual, but the rental car van driver said that it was dead and had been for the last couple of days. Since we were the only ones in the van, I tended to believe him. However, there did seem to be normal taxi and Washington Flyer service.

At Newark this afteroon I noticed quiet a bit of armed security. I even saw armed security at the PC, never seen that before.
