When did the 739 start service?
When did the 737-900 start service for Continental. I thought it was to debut sometime later this year or early next year, but much to my suprise I just noticed it in the IAH-MCO timetable, and it appears to have be effective 26AUG01. Anyone flown this jet yet, any any comments on comfort aboard?

Snake:
I suspect it is because a snake's frame is about the only one which can fit comfortably in a coach seat. Providing you haven't eaten anything recently. ------------------ "I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own." |

I flew one back in early AUgust from IAH to DTW. Its like the 800 except 18fc seats and bathrooms right behind 1st class as well as in the front and back.
The one I was on was 4 days old. |
I flew on 737-900 #5 last week from DEN to IAH. This plane was so new the seats didn't have the airfones in them yet.
Not much different then a 737-800, other then a few more rows and the extra lav. |
Some recent news articles mentioned the use of the airphones is about nil. Its rare one sees them in use anymore. They said something re removing them and saving the weight, space and upkeep etc. Maybe they are not installing them in the newer aircraft.

Shame about the phone removal trend (if indeed it does become one). Maybe if you didn't have to take out a second mortgage on your home to make a call folks would use them more!

If the airlines realize that they aren't making any money on the airphones, maybe they'll finally stop lobbying and let the FAA lift the ban on cell-phone usage during commercial flight...

I flew a 737-900 (I think #4) DEN-IAH on Sunday August 19. The captain announced that it was just put in the air on Saturday August 18. It still had a new car smell. Yummy!

Just got off a 1 month old 737-900 IAH-MCO.
In coach, it's the same straightjacket seats, but there is indeed an improvememt in FC. First of all, it carries 2 more FC seats than an 800 (18). Because of this (and because of the overall larger capacity) CO adds an additional FA in first for this aircraft. The very nice FA's on this flight explained how they LOVE the new aircraft for that reason (and told me how 16 FC meals for one FA is just about impossible, 18 would have been crazy). They also love the mid cabin lav, as it keeps coach passengers out of the first class lav, and makes their job easier. The flight was smooth and the plane smelled new...no phones. (And before someone asks, no EUA - I did not give it the chance. I used miles for the FC upgrade on a three leg domestic itinerary - rather than gamble that a lowly gold could get an upgrade on a Friday amongst all the Plats at IAH.) |
NJ -
There are no CO 737-800s with 16 FC seats. The ones w/o midcabin lav have 14 FC seats. With the midcabin lav, they will have 18 FC seats. Your FA must have been mistaken. |
You're correct - she just said extra row, sorry I added wrong - it was a long day of flying.
The point however is still valid, the 900's get an extra FA in first. [This message has been edited by NJDavid (edited 09-07-2001).] |
We've been round and round over cell phones in many threads on other forums, but the FAA does not have a ban on in-flight use of cell phones. It's the FCC's ban, and it's for very sound technical reasons which have nothing to do with the plane you're on. In addition, all airlines ban use in the plane while on the ground to some extent. Details vary, but typically if the cabin door is closed you can't use your phone.
