Any other Golds not getting upgraded on EWR-ORD?

I am Gold and travel to ORD frequently. But I almost NEVER get upgraded. Most other cities are no problem. Are there any other Golds who have had success? Is MDW a better option?

NO...MDW is not a better option....I believe they are flying the RJ's there now(unless things have changed)....I'm afraid you're SOL.... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

i'm platinum and two weeks ago on a wednesday night I had the 8:15 p.m. ORD-EWR flight. I got the auto upgrade via email 5 days out; but was very surprised at checkin when the agent said the load was so light she'd upgrade both my son and dad (actually me; since dad had claimed "my upgrade".)

Even with all 3 of us getting upgraded - there were still 2 empty seats in first...I have NEVER seen this before on this route.

Maybe because there's possibly more Plats flying out of EWR than anywhere else. Plus they're all 737s which generally have fewer FC seats.

Tell me about it . . .

Oh, where is a 757 when you need one?

Sunday, there were 2 Plats and myself Gold waitlisted for 5:05 pm EWR-SAN upgrade. Full plane. So a Plat was asked to move up about 5-10 minuets before doors closed. Then was asked to move back to coach, since the Full fare 1st passenger arrived at the last minute. I watched and listened what transpired, since I was an interested party. The upgraded passenger was acting very defient and tried to refuse to yield the seat! Did so, reluctantly, while insisiting on the agents name, etc.

Then we waited 2 1/2 hours in the 'parking lot' with 15 other planes for the gridlock in the air highway over the MIdwest to clear us for takeoff.
Actually, CO coach was very acceptable as to food and service. I did miss the upgrade though. It is so much nicer. I guess, riding in coach is a good reminder from time to time.

Elitefreak,

If it makes you feel better, I rarely get EWR-ORD upgrades as a Plat on full Y fare. Fly this route about weekly, I do sometimes book late, but lately, even with 1 week advance, all F is already gone. Toughest routes I fly from EWR are ORD, LAX, and SFO.

As a Platinum who does EWR-ORD 2 or 3 times a month, on discounted fares--I've never not been upgraded http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif I usually fly mid afternoon (the 1:45 or 4 pm) out of EWR, so that may be why there is availablilty. As for MDW--they are now flying 737's again, but my flight yesterday (1:25 out of EWR to MDW where I again was in FC) was so full, they asked for volunteers--with the choice of 200 credit Plus a FC seat on the ORD flight or FC a later MDW flight.
