Virgin Codeshare upgrade strategies

In light of the forthcoming BF "enhancements" and the simple fact that there aren't many of these mileage upgrade seats to go around to begin with, does anyone have any strategies or advice to offer (other than close your eyes and pray) on using CO miles to upgrade to Virgin Upper class?

Time of year, time of day, flights, recommendations, anything would be helpful. I would ideally like to take the AE turboprop from SAN-LAX and then LAX-LHR on Virgin.

I'm assuming the 30day/72hr rule must apply here as well.

Thanks for your help...

you cannot use CO miles to upgrade on Virgin. Virgin is not a CO partner, but CO does Hardblock (not codeshare...big difference) with Virgin.

Here are some links to other FTers exciting adventures in using OP miles to upgrade (on a CO ticket-- which I'm sure is what jetsetter was referring to,) to Virgin Upper Class-- it can and has been done, obviously.

it does seem like a lot of work/luck and probably not much of a work-around for the HoKeY fares situation.
