what to do with bump voucher
Just "completed" my buf-cle-dfw-iah-sea and return mileage run this past weekend. Except at the 2ns last leg (dfw-cle) i vounteered to be bumped, and i was put on a direct AA flight to Buffalo and a $250 voucher. It was like a free mileage run! I think my question had been asked recently, but i cant find it. If i was to take a flight before all the promos end in a week, can i use only part of my voucher and pay the rest with AMEX to get the bonuses.
Example: to Lax it is $229.50, can i say "oh i'll use just $228.50 of my voucher and forego the rest, and pay $1 on my Amex" will this work to get the points? ANy info will help thanks!! |
The answer for me was yes - as long as you pay for some part of the fare itself with AMEX. I used a travel voucher for $400 and paid the remaining $152 with AMEX and got the bonuses.

Do you still get the bonuses, if for whatever reason, you end up flying on a non-CO flight for at least one of the segments?
The reason I'm asking is that my last weekend mileage run almost got ruined by a hostile CO agent at LAS airport. I got into an argument with a CO supervisor over her unwillingness to consider my NW Plat status to put me on the upgrade waiting list for the EWR-LAS segment, and also told me there were no first class seats available on the following segment (in fact, only 3 people were in first on that segment). She was not willing to provide me with a window or aisle seat, and I got stuck with middle seats on both flights. Later on, I called NW Elite line, and requested upgrades for the remaining segments of the trip. Although, I was accruing mileage on CO, there was no problem getting the upgrades. However, after the upgrade was completed, I stopped by at the NW counter to complain about how I was being treated by the CO folks in LV, and to my dismay, I was told that the segment from LAS to EWR was showing as cancelled on my reservation. The NW agent attempted to get me back on the fligh, but the system would not let her do that. She called the CO desk, and was told by the same unfriendly supervisor, that the flight was overbooked, and there was no way to put 'one of your platinum members' back on the flight, as it was not their fault that I was taken off the flight. The NW agent could not figure out how I was taken off the flight, and the CO folks were unwilling to cooperate. The NW suggested to me, that if I could not get on the EWR flight, they would be more than happy to put me on an NW flight via MSP, where luckily seats were available in first. Well, I did not want to lose the bonuses, as I thought that a non-CO flight segment will block them, true or false? At the end, it turned out that there were two coach middle seats available on the CO flight, and I flew CO all the way, as planned. Today, I mailed a complaint requesting the CO supervisor at LV to apoligize for her resentful and discriminative behavior against a NW platinum elite member and to investigate how my boarding pass printed by the CO supervisor, turned out to be invalid. Hey, maybe my way to fix such problems is to buy the company, and fire the few unprofessional and incompetent agents one runs into. Still, most of the folks at CO are rather friendly. It's just that for some reason, sometimes, their attitude towards the NW elite members is inappropriate. solarprobe |
