So What Would You Do?

I have 130K miles burning a hole in my account and somewhat of a nod from Mrs. MBM3 to take a little adventure on my own or to meet friends. If you were me, how would you maximize the use of these hard earned miles while taking no more than about 5 vacations days?

:D

I'd give them to the J.Edward of course!

Everyone loves Hawaii - espicially in BF on a standerd reward - that would run you 125K. :)

We just did Hawaii last fall and loved it, but I was thinking something a little more adventurous since it would be just me. Last year I turned in 100K for a trip to Germany and Austria to party with friends and family, but thought maybe about the other side of the world. Or, maybe some friends in one of the fun up and coming cities in Europe like Riga.

How 'bout the AU?

130K will book you a FC ticket to Australia in a real First Class. Never done this reward myself (although I have been to the land down under) but am planning to when I get the time and miles.

Oh that does sound good. I just started playing around with some crazy flights to GUM as well.

Hate to disappoint, but the QF F award is 135K. Or at least that's what they charged me for each of my two tickies. :)

Adventure you say? How about Uzbekistan 100K for first on AF.

I dont think I could let my account grow that large - I end up being a kid in the candy store with all of his allowance money in hand!

And upon further review I have 138K, so this is tempting. But I think she might kick my butt if I did this one without her!

How was QF in First?

mcrt Feb 4, 2005 8:56 pm

It is a long way yo go with only 5 vacation days, but if you want to go to the other side of the world you could head off to Africa for a couple of days of safari. Maybe a couple of days in Kruger Park in South Africa or Maasii Mara in Kenya. According to the CO reward chart you can go for North America to Africa in business class for 120K. You can stop for a beer/overnight in Europe going or coming.

Haven't done it yet, though I hear very good things.

I've done QF in J for 105K, and the service was top notch.

Hmmm - too bad CO Mike doesnt fly to a real Australian city. It would be fun to piece together a crazy South Pacific trip!

I heartily second Australia, or the South Pacific in general. I'd skip Europe for a long cycle until the dollar recovers against the Euro. This absolutely the worst time to go to Europe in 30 years - paying absurd prices for lodging, food, goods, etc. With 130K miles, the world is pretty much at your disposal.

My sentiment exactly - that is why I am seeking input from my FT friends! We enjoyed Paris for New Year's Eve but the week dollar was a killer.

You can be creative and stretch the days. Use weekends and holidays to your advantage.

If you get Thanksgiving and the day after off, you can use three (3) vacation days that week and end up with 9 consecutive days off!

If you have 5 vacation days, you can take an 11-day trip around Thanksgiving time. ^
