Z Class
Does "Z" class (discounted BusinessFirst I think) earn elite-qualifying miles? Does it also earn the BusinessFirst bonus that counts towards elite status?
Thank you. |
It absolutely earns elite qualifying miles and does NOT earn the bonus for flying BusinessFirst. "Z" is typically the class that one is booked in when one buys an international ticket and upgrades using miles. It posts on your statement as "XZ". I believe that if you buy an int'l B/F consolidator ticket, it is also ticketed in "Z" class.

Thanks, Vulcan. I found this fare code through a BusinessFirst consolidator.
Don't award upgrades, coach to BF, go into "R" and not "Z" inventory? |
Could you tell us who is your BizFirst consolidator.
Thanks! |
Apparently Z Class tickets DO earn bonus miles. And the bonus miles do count for status as well.
From my Current Activity page: 1/16/01 Air CO MICRONESIA 0930 Y CNS GUM 2100 GOLD ELITE BONUS 2100 4200 1/16/01 Air CONTINENTAL 0002 Z GUM HNL 3801 GOLD ELITE BONUS 3801 FARE BONUS 1900 9502 1/15/01 Air CONTINENTAL 0076 Z HNL LAX 2556 GOLD ELITE BONUS 2556 FARE BONUS 1278 6390 1/15/01 Air QANTAS AIRWAYS 0546 M SYD CNS 1221 1221 From my Current Elite Status Report Page: "2001 Elite Mileage Balance: 11,635" Based on this, the "Fare Bonus" apparently DOES count as status mileage 2001 Elite Mileage Balance: 11,635 (2100+3801+1900+2556+1278=11,635) Note that the Qantas miles do NOT count for status, nor is there an elite bonus with Qantas flights. Although I have been told that you can earn a BC or FC fare bonus for flying with QF. ------------------ http://www.denycontinentalthefreddie.com/ |
Gabby6z: My brother priced a fairly cheap BusinessFirst fare and said the fare code was "Z", wanted to find out if it got miles. I'll e-mail him and find out who he used. My guess is 1st-air.com, but I'll find out.
I just noticed on the CO BizFirst website: A BusinessFirst mileage bonus of 50% when you fly First Class (A), Business Class (C and D), BusinessFirst (J) and published fares in Z class. |

I was referring to coach tickets upgraded with miles to "Z" class when I said that they don't earn the Fare bonus. I never bought a "Z" ticket "straight up" so I'm not sure about this. By your statement, it seems that you did get the bonus. This is good information to have. Below is my statement for a recent trip in which I used miles to upgrade to B/F. Certain large Japanese travel agents which does a fair amount of volume business with Continental can get you upgraded to Business First with your full-fare Y tickets. I don't know the reservation code, however, the BF seat can be confirmed at the time of booking or ticketing. You will NOT however, earn BF bonus mileages, but will not need to use 50,000 miles for upgrades. But then the current full-fare Y class fare between EWR and NRT is NOT cheap, either. Incidentally, as far as I know, those agents are in Manhattan.

Vulcan,
I also upgraded with miles, but this is how it posted. But somehow someone at CO recorded those two legs (out of 6) as "Z" class. Well, I'm sure not going to complain! At this rate I might even make Platinum this year! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif ------------------ http://www.denycontinentalthefreddie.com/ |

BTW, thanks to your post, I now know that CNS is exactly 1 mile further than HKG. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif |
Yep, as ozstamps said, "the Mother of all Mileage Runs"...grin
